We recently had the chance to connect with Terra Blume and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Terra, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Two things: Launching Ravenwood Hats and breaking through the nervousness of singing.
When it comes to the hat company, I was afraid of showing it to the world due to a fear of failure and judgement. It’s something completely new and I was afraid of what people around me would say. I even still get nervous wearing hats sometimes, let alone launching a company surrounding hats! But I realized if I don’t stay confident in what I want to do and what I want to create, I will never be happy. So, when I got laid off of my job, I knew that was my sign to launch Ravenwood. It took one week. It felt right, it was needed, and I don’t regret it one bit. It wouldn’t have been possible without some amazing people that I’m so grateful to call my friends. I’m excited to see where Ravenwood goes from here.
As far as the nervousness of singing, I’ve loved singing since I was in high school, but I never had the confidence TO sing, nor did I know if I was good or not. Recently, I’ve finally broken through the nervousness and I finally was able to sing from the heart, in front of other people! A really good friend of mine helped me unlock that. I fought through the nervousness a little bit and sung to It’s Far Better To Learn by Saosin. I was still a bit timid. Then, he recommended we both sing along to In The End by Linkin Park (he raps the rap portion and I sing the singing portion). It was probably the most fun I’ve had in a long time, and I felt like I truly unlocked a part of me that was so hidden in a corner. I couldn’t stop singing that night, and I still can’t believe that I did it so confidently. It’s a core memory I’ll cherish for life.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Terra Blume. I am 23 years old. I wear many hats (figuratively and literally). I am a musician and vocalist, I am a photographer, videographer, a YouTuber, and the creator of Ravenwood, a hat company specializing in fedoras and (very soon) cowboy hats.
I started creating music when I was in 6th grade. I found a free online DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) called Soundation, and from there I tried many different DAWs, like Ableton, Bitwig, and more. I settled on FL Studio and I’ve been loyal to them since!
I’ve released one album, in 2024, titled ‘I Hope You’re Proud Of Me,’ and one EP, in 2019, titled ‘Loner.’ I’m currently working on 3 or so albums, and I have an EP coming out this year that doesn’t have a title yet!
Creativity is something I’ve always held dear to my soul, and I’m grateful that I’ve been able to try new things. Ravenwood Hats is a company I launched in May 2025. I love wearing hats a lot but it’s been such a task finding quality hats, and hats that fit my head! I always wanted to start my own hat company, and being laid off from my job was the final push I needed to start.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
That’s a very deep question.
I was a kid who dreamed intensely. I was hyper, just excited about life. I was extroverted, able to talk to literally anybody without an ounce of fear. I loved everything that has to do with cars (I still do). Creative, I would make books with different characters, and create whole worlds and lore with my HotWheels. I would hyperfixate on everything I found cool. I was out of pocket (I still am very much out of pocket).
I was me.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Music was the catalyst for that. I first started creating electronic music and music to get “hype” to, because that’s what I listened to back then, in the Monstercat era of YouTube. But my style and goals changed as I got older and dealt with more “issues.” I went from creating EDM to more ambient/lo-fi music. I was starting to express myself but I still wanted to express more. These songs were instrumentals, and that simply isn’t enough anymore. As life went on, a lot more has changed. I got into rock/metal music, and my styles have started to switch. After going through some extremely intense situations mentally and physically this year, I’ve started writing everything I’m feeling into lyrics. It has been truly freeing for me. I’m able to express everything I’ve hidden and suppressed over the 23 years of being alive. It’s honestly addicting. There’s been points where I’ve stayed up to 8am writing songs until my brain hurt. I’ve written over 30 full songs in the past 2 months. It takes a LOT out of me to write some of these, but it’s much needed, and I can’t wait for the world to see them.
These new songs aren’t an easy listen, but for those who can relate, it will strike you deeply. If I can help at least one person, I know my suffering wasn’t in vain.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I have a LOT, but the strongest contender for me is health. The saying “Health is Wealth” is very true. It’s important to keep your physical and mental health in check. What we put in our body will affect us. The quality of our food, to the quality of entertainment (music, information), it’s important to really monitor that and make sure you’re treating your body well. Meditation helps as well, and taking breaks from technology. Banking off of the topic of health, I also stay away from alcohol and smoking, as those have never been an interest for me. I’ve also started working out consistently this year, which has been AMAZING for my mental and physical health.
Another thing is helping people when you can, in all aspects of life. That’s self explanatory. I feel that I’ve done plenty wrong in life, as no one is perfect. I love to help people regardless, but due to my past, it makes me go the extra mile just to make up for that. I want everyone to be their best.
A solid truth is being able to be true to yourself. Just be you, unapologetically. I hold pretty strong morals and that’s one that I try to stand by. I feel that as long as you’re not hurting yourself or hurting anyone else, you need to be yourself. I stress that. It’s so important to feel comfortable as YOU. That’s what makes life fun. If you’re weird, be weird. I’m weird. I repeat: BE WEIRD.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop worrying about what people think of me. It’s easier said than done, but when you’ve grown up in spaces where people judge you for not wearing a certain brand, for acting different than what the “norm” was, being critiqued from every single person you know, always trying to speak your truth and never being heard, that embeds in you. It can take a while to bring it to the surface and truly heal it, especially when you’ve built defense mechanisms as a direct result of said experiences/trauma, mechanisms you might not even realize are there. But that’s something that (I think) would be a lot easier to get rid of in that particular hypothetical circumstance.
