Let’s jump in: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
During the 2025 usafencing summer nationals our club took home 6 medals.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Tony Kosla, the owner and head coach at Plymouth/Ann Arbor Fencing Academy.
We opened in November of 2020 and have quickly established ourselves as one of the top 20 clubs in the country.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My business mentors.
I worked at a different fencing club for a number of years, the club president and manager saw how the work I was doing led to the growth of the club and helped give me the confidence to start my own.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Things generally work out if you are willing to work hard and make the right sacrifices.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I think the public version is pretty close to the real me. I enjoy the social aspect of my work but that was something I needed to work on when I was younger.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes! I have found the journey to be more rewarding then the end result most of the time.
