We recently had the chance to connect with S.L Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
S.L , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’m not chasing anything, I’m attracting. Everything in my life is a reflection of something in me, rather it seems to be good or bad, it’s all a reflection of some part of me. The moment I realized that, it opened my mind to a new thought process of accountability. I’ll be attracting what’s meant for me until the day I die.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m award winning author S.L Jackson. I’ve released books in four different genres. Fantasy, True-Crime, Children’s books, and Self-Help. Besides that, I’m a coach in the Jr. Nba, and this year I will be making my debut as a middle school girls basketball coach in Michigan. However above all of that, I’m the father to a beautiful, smart, talented 9 year old, Shelby Sunshine.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
I’d say my grandfather, Ronald Legion, taught me the most about work. He was the person to give me my first job, working in the garden at the family home. Once that work ethic was installed, I learned quickly, the way you do one thing, is the way you do all things. I still use all those lessons learned decades ago in the way I do things today.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one-kind thing to my younger self, I’d tell a younger me, that I matter. Knowing that would have changed so much.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
You’re Your Problem. Not too many people want to take the accountability for their own actions. My late father (Juan Jackson) and I had a conversation, making realize that most people if not all are their own problem. The truth has no feelings or emotions. It’s just the truth. That conversation was the inspiration behind my latest book, “You’re Your Problem, A Path To Accountability and Self-Healing” which was released on May 23, 2025 and is available on Amazon. It’s already won two different awards. (The Regal Book Summit Awards and The International Impact Book Awards)
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want people to tell real stories. Don’t romanticize me. Tell it like it was, those stories will help more than hurt.
