Story & Lesson Highlights with Lisa Gaiter of Detroit

We recently had the chance to connect with Lisa Gaiter and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My first 90 minutes belongs to God. When I awake, I Thank him for allowing me to awaken another day. I Thank him for his continued grace and mercies.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Lisa Gaiter, and I am the founder and creative force behind Detroit Press Play, a platform dedicated to amplifying authentic voices and producing stories that inspire, challenge, and connect communities. What makes Detroit Press Play unique is its blend of local empowerment and global storytelling thou we are rooted in Detroit’s resilience; our vision reaches far beyond city limits.

Currently, I’m expanding this mission by writing my first film, adapted from my debut book Scars, Sins, and Secrets. I am extremely passionate about this story because it’s the story of someone that is near and dear to me. It’s time to stop being silenced as a victim. I believe there are so many people share the same story. It’s time for them to heal and their voices need to be heard. I have written 2 other books since my Duology. Stuck in Traffick and Help! My workplace is toxic. A new release coming soon. thou I have written 2 other books This project is it explores themes of survival, redemption, and truth—and it represents the next chapter in my journey as both an author and a producer.

To bring this vision to life, I am actively seeking angel investors who share a passion for bold, transformative storytelling. Partnering with Detroit Press Play means investing not only in a film, but in a movement that uplifts voices, builds legacy, and creates meaningful impact through art.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my grandmother who raised me to be the woman that I am today. My grandmother was such a strong woman and believed in never giving up no matter what the obstacles that you face. It’s because of her that I am strong enough to use my voice to advocate, write and speak for others.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The younger me was a procrastinator. I would say to my younger self is that time waits for no one. Life is not promised if you set out to do something then get started and work towards completion. I would say to the younger Lisa is that the only person in your way is the girl in front of the mirror.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to making sure that “Scars, Sins and Secrets” makes it to theatres, no matter how long it takes. “Through the film adaptation of my book Scars, Sins, and Secrets, I am committed to telling a story that does more than entertain. This project is designed to heal victims, break cycles of silence, and confront the generational curses that have weighed on families and communities for far too long. By transforming lived experiences into art, the film becomes a tool for awareness, while bringing forth change. My mission is to save lives by showing that scars can become testimonies, sins can be redeemed, and secrets can be released into freedom. This will not be just a film but a movement toward generational healing.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people will share the story of my love and my legacy. All of my life I worked hard to bring joy, love and laughter to those around me. Every project I worked on was to improve life for my family. I want to be remembered for the laughter that I brought to make others Happy.
