Linda Stone shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Linda, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think many people struggle with comparison…with others, what others seem to have or do.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I own Detroit Can Company, and along with my husband, we have created our version of a gift basket, in a vintage-style paint can! All of our products are locally sourced food and gifts made by great people in Detroit and its surrounding areas. From our website, we ship these all over the country to bring people a piece of Detroit.
For our history…
We were running a family fundraising business for many years, traveling throughout Michigan working with many incredible organizations. We hosted hundreds of these events that helped many different charities…and then Covid changed everything. Because these were congregating events in public places, everything came to a screeching halt.
It was time to reinvent. Through many years of sourcing unique gifts, we have built relationships with incredible people that have creative and amazing ideas. We have built our Detroit Can Company concept with the goal of supporting our local Detroit community and its small businesses.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Traveling overseas, which is my passion. Seeing how we are all really so much the same…just with different environments, influences, and ways of doing things. It’s so cool to be somewhere else and connect with people…sometimes when you don’t even speak the same language! And I LOVE the differences and the uniqueness…never boring.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
To keep moving forward. Don’t worry about failure. The reward is in the experience.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I wear my heart on my sleeve and try to always be real.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Worrying.
