Story & Lesson Highlights with Dr. Bianca Guess of Greater Lansing Area

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dr. Bianca Guess. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Bianca, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I felt true joy was actually just last night. I was lying on the couch with my husband to my left, my teenage daughter to my right, and our fur baby curled at our feet while college basketball played on the TV. I love sports—especially college sports—and my family loves college basketball just as much. Sitting there, surrounded by the people (and pet) I adore, I realized in that moment that I had everything I needed, even if only for a little while.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a connector, educator, and wellness leader who empowers individuals and communities through movement, mentorship, and meaningful experiences.

My brand is rooted in authenticity, inclusivity, and the belief that fitness is a pathway to confidence, growth, and belonging. I am grounded in relationship building, and a deep understanding of how people learn, move, and thrive.

I specialize in environments where people feel seen and supported-whether that’s students exploring fitness for the first time, athletes striving for performance, or staff teams working toward a shared mission. My work blends academic expertise, coaching experience, and community engagement to elevate wellness spaces, strengthen partnerships, and inspire positive change.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me everything I know about work and work ethic. My sister and I grew up in a two-parent home, in a house that felt like the most beautiful place in the world to me as a child. They never made excuses-they showed up for work every day and showed up for us no matter the day, time, or activity. To me, they were truly magical.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are enough!

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! My values, my work ethic, my passion for wellness, my desire to uplift others is consistent across every version of me. The public me isn’t a performance; it’s just the part of me that leads, supports, and serves. The private me adds depth, softness, and intention to that foundation. Both are real, and together they make me whole.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I made their lives better simply by being myself.

I hope the story they tell is that I lived with intention, lifted others as I climbed, and that I treated people with respect and compassion, no matter who they were or where we crossed paths.

Most of all, I hope they say that I loved hard, worked hard, and left every space better than I found it. That my presence made an impact not because of titles or accomplishments, but because how I made people feel.
