Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Gray.
Hi Tim, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got my start in the speaking world as a little boy growing up in my local church. I was always on the drums but then I would do Easter and Christmas speeches twice a year. Eventually, people began to recognize the gift that was placed in me, even before I did. I then began to transition from speeches to messages and speaking engagements. Doors began to open, and connections began to be made. Through the late bishop Nathaniel wells Jr. I was able to travel with him to South America and speak their, I’ve recently been blessed to host my very own talk show, The Tim Gray Talk Show. The show features a wide range of guest who are unique in their own way. This is only the beginning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would be lying if I said the road has been smooth. Even ’till this day struggles still arise. Like most people I got caught up in what others think, not knowing if this is all worth it and not even knowing if I was living out my purpose in life. Also being looked up to as inspiration by my peers and the generation coming up behind me, sometimes it’s hard to make sure I am that example they are inspired by. This journey also requires a lot of sacrifice. A lot of times I can’t hang out with friends, have a movie night, or even go out because I’m constantly working on the talk show or getting prepared for a speaking engagement or going to the gym, etc.
With that being said I do know what my goals and visions are and the only person who can stop me is me. My faith, family, and people who support me help me to wake up every day and keep going. One thing I know is me fulfilling my dreams will be the door for someone else to fulfill theirs.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do a host of many things. I’m a public speaker, Talk show host, drummer, etc.
I’ve recently put majority of my focus into my new talk show but I will always put speaking and inspiring others at the top.
I’m most proud of all the lives God has allowed me to touch and impact thus far.
The thing I believe that most sets me apart is my determination and perseverance to never give up and never run from any challenge or obstacle that may be standing in my way. My favorite athlete growing up was Kobe Bryant. He was known for his mamba mentality. I want to carry that same mamba mentality he did in whatever I do in life.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
One of the best pieces of advice I can give for a mentor is to find someone who is excelling or succeeding in the field you want to be in. Become a sponge and soak up all the information and knowledge you can learn from them. Every successful person has learned or been taught something by someone who came before them. Stay humble, hungry, and willing to learn, also study others who are already succeeding in your craft. Instead of watching Netflix and Hulu get books or listen to podcast on your craft and study it. Also go to networking events. Don’t be afraid to talk to new people because you don’t know who your next connection could come from.
