Rising Stars: Meet Tiffany Campbell of Battle Creek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Campbell.

Hi Tiffany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out by myself in a independent Suit as an esthetician, and one of my girlfriends who is a licensed cosmetologist was going to join me, so we got a bigger location that was plenty big enough for more than the two of us. After I had made the move into the bigger building, my friend only stayed with me for a couple weeks before deciding she didn’t want to do hair anymore, so I was stuck with this big building and double the rent I had before so then I decided to bring in others And accidentally grew too big that we had to expand. And then we ended up expanding again to the point now I have two locations which was never my plan, but everything is going really well for not having a plan so I like to call my business kind of an accident. But now we have two awards from business rate as best salon in Battle Creek based off Google reviews, and we have best character art for nails from salon notes.
Our Columbia location, houses five Nail Tech, a tattoo artist and an Esthetician and at our Michigan location, we have two Nail Tech three Hairstylest, a lash technician and two estheticians.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not after leaving my suite and moving into a building with a storefront I did everything with the state to get my licensing and didn’t know I need an occupancy permit from the city so I got hit with a fine from the city and a few thousand dollars worth of stuff to do that I had no idea it was going to be a thing. After that things went smooth for a while until we got the second location across town and I let our younger staff members go over there without myself, which was a mistake because then they created so much drama and started talking negatively about other staff members to the clients and I had to Remove five people from the new location and restaff. I have learned a lot of lesson lessons on what to do and not to do and I’m sure I’m still learning as I go..

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I offer waxing, facials, lash extensions, and massage. My favorite thing to do is waxing. I am pretty well known for Brazilians, which is my favorite thing to do. They don’t take very long and it’s good money and I feel like you make so many friends when you’re so close in a awkward position, but I always try to make everybody as comfortable as possible, but sometimes it turns into a lot of laughs and jokes.
I think the most proud of my accomplishments how far I have come without a business plan or with any help financially, and I feel like that has made me a stronger independent woman.
What sets me apart from others is that I’m a little outgoing and goofy. I’m never very serious. My clients say that I make them feel very comfortable and that they love my personality yet I still am not for some people, but I definitely love all the clients that I have.

What’s next?
My plans for the future are to be able to purchase the building that my second location is in and to help build up one of my nail techs at my Columbia location to make her comfortable in taking over and having her own nail salon she has helped me out so much that I want to help her have her own business. That’s also lessons some of the stress of trying to be in two places at once.
