Rising Stars: Meet Tax Holloway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tax Holloway.

Hi Tax, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I first got into music around maybe 5-6 years old. I began writing raps at the age of 13 when my cousin came over with a cassette tape with him rapping on it, I questioned how they did it, and he explained what a studio was. From there on, I began writing verses and rapping around my neighborhood, to where id become a neighborhood star. I was then handpicked by WipeOut, CEO of Eastside Chedda Boyz, where I would be known as Lil Dre. We released 2 independent albums in which the first one, “Makin Chedda on the Eastside,” would end up shaping the sound of Detroit music after selling out continuously. Years later, WipeOut, the CEO, was murdered. I had moved to Atlanta earlier the same year, so I began to promote and do music there. I was offered deals that either didn’t go right or wasn’t what I was looking for, the last deal was going through, and then the recession hit, so we had to renegotiate. We never followed up. Having all the equipment in my home, I began to flirt with making beats… they were terrible! I didn’t try to take it seriously until I moved back to Detroit and

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s pretty much been a smooth ride; anything I do, I’m trying to be one of the best at, so the talents always open doors and help me out in whatever it is I’m focused on.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a CEO, ghostwriter, and a music producer. I also starred as a main character in a movie. Right now, I’m mostly known for my beats. Being an in-house producer for 42 Cheez and Tuff Tone, I was able to transition from a rapper to full producer, highlighting WipeOut’s voice as my beat tag “Yeah B**** Playa Hate on This!” That’s probably what I’m most proud of, being able to have my fallen big homie voice on records with top-selling artists in the industry. What sets me apart is my beat style; I’m not following waves. I’m from Detroit, but I make more than Detroit beats.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Honestly… they know nothing. I do so much behind the scene and move different than a lot of people. Some run towards the spotlight; I stay in the shadows. I’ve had celebrity status since a teenager, so I’m not too big on fame. But I’ll give a couple… one thing is a lot of people don’t know Tax Holloway is Cheddaboy Lil Dre. A lot of people don’t know I was offered maybe 4 record deals; they don’t know bout me in Jermaine Dupri chill spot wit Nelly, Jagged Edge, R Kelly, watching them beef over basketball lol; it’s so much they don’t know cause I’m private.
