Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Sigler
Hi Susan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I was never someone that always had a plan or knew what I wanted to be as I got older. I was in highschool when I found out about the cosmetology program at Genesee Career Institute. I decided to sign up, as I was very intrigued by the beauty industry, and was thrilled when I was accepted into the program. I started cosmetology school the summer going into my junior year, and completed my 1500 hours by highschool graduation. It was a much more difficult course than anybody had expected, but I’m so proud to say I pushed through, even with the pandemic cutting my senior year short.
After graduation, I started assisting in a hair salon and always felt like I was going down the wrong path and that the career I chose was not the right one for me. I decided to take a lash course online and start practicing. After leaving my assisting position and going back to making pizzas full time, I began feeling disappointed in myself that I wasn’t putting my hard earned license to use. I researched salons and found Wild Side Spa in Davison, MI.
Starting at Wild Side, I went on the floor as a commission hairstylist while also being trained hands-on by the manager, Lindsay. She was a great help and I know I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for her and the owner, Heather. After a little while, I started to get that feeling that hair just wasn’t for me again. This ate away at me for a while that ultimately ended in me leaving Wild Side to go do only lashes in a completely different salon environment. This would result in me fearing I no longer liked beauty as a whole, and leaving that salon only a week and a half later. Still being unsure about my feelings thus far, I wanted to try doing strictly lashes and makeup and Wild Side if they would be so generous as to take me back. To my luck, they did! I’m still very happy with my decision to come back to this day.
Since then, I have gotten certified in eyebrow laminations, spray tans, and permanent jewelry, and offer these all as services along with lash extensions and makeup. I also made the switch from commission to boothrent with a full schedule to keep me completely busy, as I have tacked on modeling to my books as well. I am now 22 years old and have been licensed for 4 years! I clearly have tons of dreams and aspirations, and I will never stop chasing them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest struggles were being unsure on what I really enjoyed and what I didn’t.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a licensed cosmetologist also certified in eyelash extensions, eyebrow laminations, makeup, spray tans, and permanent jewelry.
I also have started modeling over the past year and a half.
I am very proud of how far I’ve come at such a young age, especially through all of my undiagnosed medical issues that have become so unmotivating
What’s next?
I look forward to getting further into the fashion community as I definitely have a new found love for it. I hope to become more successful in modeling and travel more
