Rising Stars: Meet Shawn McDonough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn McDonough.

Hi Shawn, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I worked in radio for 10 years. I was an on-air talent, producer for many formats. Through that company, I started to get my feet wet DJing corporate events and weddings. It was a FUN job but I got a bit burned out on it all and decided to jump into some “regular” jobs.

During the 2 years, I was out of the entertainment industry, I kept getting’ at least 20-30 inquires per 6 months on couples & clients wanting me to DJ their events or produce their commercials. So, I decided to start my own company for a little side coin and it exploded to the point where I had to go full time with it 4 years ago. Haven’t looked back since : )

Oh, and the company name comes from my nickname in HS & radio “JellieBean” and my mentor in radio was “Catfish” so I combined the two and fell in love with “JellieFish Productions”. Everyone digs the logo : )

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a smooth road with all things considering while starting a company from scratch. Bumps along the way are just normal learning experiences and rebranding myself from the “radio” persona that I had to full out JellieFish Productions : )

Only other “bump” I could think of is finding really talented individuals that can keep the integrity of JellieFish priority number 1. This is a fun career but it’s a lot of work and if you don’t take it seriously, you will fizzle out. No doubt you can have SO MUCH FUN with it but you need a good work ethic & passion to stay in this biz.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the Owner & Founder of JellieFish Productions. I run all operations but would be nowhere without my squad helping me every bit of the way!

I would say my main specialty is creating fun mixes on the fly for your event. Production was such a huge influence on me in radio and I still produce a lot of commercials that I’m really proud of and I take that element of creativity and forward momentum to my DJing skills.

What am I known for: depends on who you ask lol! Former radio colleagues would probably say my fun personality and production skills. DJing industry I would say I’m most known for keeping the party alive even if the crowd is tough to accommodate for or if the environment is making dancing not so fun (cough 105-degree weather in July and under a tent lol).

In a nutshell. Fun, outgoing, party vibe creator but professional.

What does success mean to you?
I define success when you are personally at your happiest while also giving that same feeling of happiness towards the ones you are working for or with.

Being true to yourself but also those around you.

Nothing fake will amount to anything.

Focus, passion, and not being afraid to take risks to better yourself and others 🙂
