Rising Stars: Meet Shauna Wear

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shauna Wear.

Hi Shauna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up with a camera in my hand. From a young age, I loved documenting all the big and small details of this beautiful life. In 2012, I followed my life-long passion and started Shauna Wear Photography. In the early years, I was eager to capture anything and everything. My goal was to help others document their lives, just as I always loved doing in my own. The spring following my business launch, I shot my first wedding and loved every, single, second of it. The real laughter, tears, emotion of day was and is so moving to me. Photographing people’s lives has been, and will always, be an honor. I am passionate about capturing the authentic story of each and every wedding day. I LOVE couples in love, traveling the world, and chasing sunlight. I am extremely grateful to be celebrating my tenth year in business in 2022!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is so important for me to be authentic and true to myself and my work. I struggled throughout my early years comparing myself to others within this business. The saying “comparison is the thief of joy” is so true, especially for artists. Once I decided to stop the comparisons, stay true to myself and create the art I love in the way I love doing so, I became more successful than ever.

And of course, Covid 19! Fitting in two full years of weddings into one has been a challenge. I have been blessed to be back to work in 2021, however, I am looking forward to more of a balanced work schedule and some much-needed family time in 2022.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Metro Detroit-based wedding photographer passionate about capturing beautiful love stories. My style of photography is a mix of documentary and lifestyle; always striving to tell the authentic story of each and every wedding day. Meeting new clients makes my heart happy and by the time their wedding day rolls around, I feel like we’re old friends. I cry during the vows and daddy/daughter dances and my favorite part of the day is when the groom gets to see his beautiful bride for the first time.

I am most proud of my body of work throughout the past 9 years. Creating images that become heirloom pieces for couples and families is an honor that I do not take lightly.

Although creating beautiful art is always my goal, I strive to make the experience of working with me a wonderful one. I care about my clients as people. I care about their wedding day as a whole. I am always there to support, advise, and create a positive experience for everyone involved.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success and fulfillment go hand and hand. My success isn’t solely about how many weddings I am photographing, the accolades I receive, or how much money I make, but also about the joy I feel and give to others. Am I making a difference? Am I true to myself? My art? Is my family proud of me? All of those things attribute to. my definition of success.
