Rising Stars: Meet Shantonya Scott

 

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantonya Scott. 

Hi Shantonya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved all things home…house hunting, home decor, etc. I was selling my first home and my listing agent at the time invited me to career night at their brokerage. I never thought of real estate as a career but always loved the industry in my own way. So, I attended career night and it ignited an excitement I didn’t know existed. One of the agents at the career night connected with me and sort of took me under her wing. I was working full-time as a Senior Academic Advisor at my local university, so I took a week off work to take the required pre-licensure class. Once I complete/passed the class I studied for a week and then went to sit for the state exam. I passed the first time! Once I obtained my license, I chose the same brokerage to hang my license and jumped right into the business. I’ve learned so much over the years and I continue to learn and enhance my skills through classes, trainings, mentorship, and truly researching and reading about my craft and the industry. I’m so excited to serve the Metro Detroit community and truly bring a positive real estate experience to all those I have the pleasure of assisting. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Many people believe being a realtor is a simple and easy job, however, that is far from the truth. Realtors make the job look easy as a lot of times all you see is the beautiful homes and closings. This industry is tough and requires true skills, knowledge, and a special kind of person to truly be successful. Starting out, the hardest part is getting clients. As a realtor, you are an independent contractor and the CEO of your business. In this arena, you eat what you kill…and if you don’t do the work and close deals, you don’t make any profits. I think one of the toughest obstacles most Realtors face is consistency. Without consistency your business will not reach it full potential. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a realtor and lifestyle designer. I help people design and create the life they want through buying and selling real estate. My ultimate goal is my client’s complete satisfaction through advocating on their behalf, understanding their needs and wants, and delivery a stress-free experience…all while saving them time and money. I love working with first-time homebuyers as my experience as a first-time homebuyer was one of the drivers for me entering the industry. My customer service sets me apart. Everyone I encounter receive an elite experience regardless of their budget and preferences. I take the time to educate my clients prior to starting the home buying or selling process to ensure they are knowledgeable and capable of making informed decision to reach their real estate goals. I value people over profit, which also sets me apart. 

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I recently relocated to Detroit from West Michigan and I’m excited to help Detroiters gain access to homeownership, which is a great avenue to build wealth and family legacy.
