Rising Stars: Meet Shae Almighty of Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shae Almighty.

Hi Shae, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ll never forget a conversation I had with my sister in 2020. She told me that if I started then, by the time I reached the age I am now, I’d be further than most people my age. That stuck with me.

Was this the moment my sewing journey began ? Possibly. Or, was it in my home economics class in elementary school? Maybe my passion for fashion began at 9, when I would turn old jeans into purses.
Maybe it started even earlier, watching my mom crochet and sew pieces for her own business. Perhaps it really began the day I bought my first sewing machine after she passed away. Maybe it was the desire to create the clothes I couldn’t afford growing up.

The truth is, I don’t know exactly where my journey as a fashion designer began. Maybe every one of those moments led me here. What I do know is that I’m blessed to have discovered my purpose early—and even more blessed that I chose to follow it.

As some may know, I went viral in 2023, which helped jump-start my career. But going viral isn’t what got me where I am today. Consistency, the pursuit of knowledge, marketing, networking, failing forward, and strategy is what built my foundation and brought me to where I stand now.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road ? Absolutely not. I’ve had to issue refunds, I’ve missed drop dates for my fashion brand and believe it or not I’ve even been scammed.

But this journey is one I wouldnt soon give up. Each one of these bumps in the road refine me as an artistian and business woman.

The biggest obstacle I face is often times mental. The feeling that I should be farther than I am. When in reality, I’m exactly where I should be right now and this very far from where I began.

It can be really hard sometimes to enjoy the journey when you can see your future so clearly. But focusing more on the journey and less on the destination is what makes the bumpy road kinda cool.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a fashion designer, seamstress and content creator. I have a fashion brand named Youreccentrics. I release high quality one of one statement pieces and outfits to fit every mood, in sizes XS-XL.

All aspects of my design process are handled in-house. I create my own patterns, samples, prototypes, tech packs and final garments. I show clips of the behind the scenes process on platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram so my audience can follow the journey behind each piece.

Youreccentrics also offers alterations to those in the Detroit & Metro Detroit area. Manufacturing services for small/new clothing brands, sewing classes(kit included) and bespoke apparel.

While I specialize in women’s apparel right now. I will be adding men’s apparel to my brand in 2026. I’m currently available for bespoke orders and events.

What makes me the most proud is seeing my growth throughout the years. It’s affirmation that I’m on the right path and becoming the well rounded designer I’m meant to be.

I’m not sure if at this point in my career I’m known for any one thing in specific. What I’m known for depends on who your asking, one person might say alterations, another might say my crystal prom dress or maybe my TikTok videos. I’m definitely still figuring out my signature style as a designer but for right now being your favorite designer and seamstress from Detroit is enough for me.

What sets me apart from others is my ability to be myself. My brand is all about dressing to express. Self expression and representation through fashion. My unapologetic individualism and eccentric eye is what allows me to create the way I do and what attracts my target audience to my business.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My willingness to learn is the most important factor in my success. In both my professional and personal life, I refuse to let a lack of prior knowledge hold me back. When I encounter something I don’t know—or wasn’t taught growing up or early in my design journey—I take the initiative to learn it. I read, research, and seek answers until I fully understand. More importantly, I don’t stop at understanding; I focus on applying what I’ve learned to my everyday life.
