Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Escape Room Novi was established in 2016 by a local resident and opened with 4 rooms, quickly expanding and doubling in size to having 8 rooms by 2018. In 2019, we added Mobile Escape Rooms in Tents and Trailers. In 2021, our second location, Escape Room Brighton, opened with 5 new rooms.

We have a large range of escape rooms – each with unique storylines and challenges. Themes range from Eerie Fishing Wharfs to Candy Factories to Tropical Islands to Spooky Egyptian Tombs and more – ensuring there is something for everyone. Our rooms are designed with intricate puzzles that require teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity. This makes it ideal for both casual players and seasoned escape room fans. Rooms can typically accommodate a range of group sizes, making it suitable for everything from small gatherings to larger teams. We offer different levels of difficulty, allowing groups to choose an experience that matches their skill level. We do not set a limit on clues, so you can choose to ask for as little or as much help as you would like.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Escape Rooms are a relatively new concept to Michigan. The first escape rooms opened in 2015 and we opened in 2016. Even now in 2025 some people have still never heard of an Escape Room so it’s something still new in the entertainment industry.
There were two movies, one in 2017 and one in 2019 which featured Escape Rooms which were both horror themed which made some members of the public believe all escape rooms were about solving puzzles or dying so that was a struggle to convince people that our escape rooms were more like Mission Impossible or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory than horror movies.

Escape Room Novi has been voted #1 Escape Room in the Detroit and Metro Detroit area by WDIV Click on Detroit’s Vote 4 The Best, by readers of the Detroit Free Press three years in a row and more recently won a Best of Morty 2024 award as one of only two winners in Michigan! Escape Room Novi appears top on other websites such as Yelp, Google and Facebook, but what makes us the best escape room in Metro Detroit?
Immersive Rooms – When you choose to do an escape room, you want to leave your real life behind and the best escape rooms do this. All of our escape rooms have immersive scenic design. We want players to really feel as though they are in a different world. Whether you’re inside a fictional candy factory, a magician’s parlor, a tropical island, a Las Vegas hotel room, an Egyptian tomb, a 1920s bar, a weird oddities shop or on a vintage wild west train – we want you to feel like it’s real.
Puzzle flow – Everyone knows a good escape room needs a good storyline. Why are you in the escape room? What is the mission objective? Every escape room has a video or audio introduction, to set the scene and to tell you what is happening. Our storylines spark the imagination and draw in players.
Our location – After you’re done escaping with us, explore the rest of Twelve Mile Crossing at Fountain Walk where you’ll find Emagine Movie Theater, various restaurants including Ford’s Garage, Meat Moot, K-Pot Korean BBQ, Buddy’s Pizza and more. There’s a ton of activities like Axe Throwing at BATL, Go Karting at Full Throttle, Ice Curling and Fowling at The HUB.
Our amazing staff – We have the best, most passionate staff around. Our 25 people strong team is here to help make sure you and your group have a great time. Escape rooms are meant to be challenging but also fun. There will inevitably be moments when you need a little help or a hint to keep things moving which is where your clues come in. We typically offer 3 clues however there is no limit to how much help you get. If we see your group is stuck, we will often buzz in and push your group in the right direction to encourage success.
At Escape Room Novi we have a passionate and dedicated senior management team. Dan was the original owner, a local Novi family man. Mike has been here since the beginning in 2016, overseeing the building, fixing puzzles, items, construction, electrical and more. Bri has been here since the beginning in 2016, being a game master, then a manager and now general manager specializing in HR and Staffing. Xavier has been here since 2017, being a game master, then a manager and now general manager specializing in building props, fixing items and electronics. Sean has been here since 2019, being a game master, then a manager and now general manager specializing in marketing, website, advertising, and customer experience. In March 2024, Andrea and Larry took over the business. Kaitlin and Ahmed joined in 2024 in senior management roles.
Any big plans?
We started with 4 escape rooms and now we have 16 across two locations. We hope to open more locations in the future.
