Rising Stars: Meet Samantha Mee of Bloomfield Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Mee.

Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, I always felt a pull toward something deeper, something just beyond the surface of ordinary life. I spent most of my childhood outdoors, surrounded by the quiet companionship of nature, plants, and animals. Even then, I was the child looking up at the sky and asking my parents “why,” always seeking meaning and sensing there was more to this world than what we could see.

My first experience with yoga came in high school, although at that time it was simply another form of physical activity. I had no idea how vast the practice truly was. Everything changed a few years later after the traumatic loss of a loved one. In that period of grief, when I felt broken and vulnerable, I found myself stepping into a yoga studio that honored the deeper spiritual essence of the practice. That moment opened something inside me and transformed not only how I viewed yoga but also how I understood myself and the world around me.

After many unsuccessful attempts to heal through Western medicine, I began turning to Eastern modalities in search of relief from chronic stress, PTSD, and trauma. What I found was far more than healing. It was a profound transformation. Through these practices, I rediscovered parts of myself I did not even know had been lost. My intuition returned, my inner strength resurfaced, and I began reconnecting with my own sense of personal power.

As these practices continued to change me, I felt a clear calling to share them with others. I pursued training and licensure in the very modalities that helped restore me, and I followed that path with deep devotion. For more than a decade, I have been practicing and teaching yoga, Ayurveda, meditation, astrology, massage therapy, sound healing, and other forms of holistic care.

Over the years, I have witnessed the long-term impact these ancient tools can create, both in my own life and in the lives of countless individuals I have worked with. Healing is not a final destination. It is a living and evolving journey. I am endlessly grateful to walk this path, not only for my own growth but also for the people whose lives intertwine with mine. These practices did more than change my life. They gave me a purpose that continues to guide me every day.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been many challenges on this path, especially in the beginning. One of the biggest obstacles I faced was choosing to follow a nontraditional route after high school. Instead of pursuing a college degree immediately, I felt called to immerse myself in the study and practice of yoga. I took a job working the front desk at my local studio and spent every spare moment absorbing as much as I could.

This choice came with a lot of fear and uncertainty, not only from me but from the people around me. Friends and family expressed doubts about how I would turn this unconventional path into a sustainable career. Their concerns were understandable, because at that time these practices were still unfamiliar to most people, especially in my community.

As I continued to evolve, I felt drawn to the more esoteric aspects of the healing arts, such as sound healing, energy work, and astrology. These modalities were not as widely recognized or practiced in the United States during that period, and being one of the first people in my area to offer them publicly created even more resistance and skepticism.

There were moments when I faced my own doubts and frustration. If it were not for the profound effects these practices had on my personal healing, and the support and guidance of my teachers, it would have been much easier to walk away. Yet something in me knew how important it was to stay committed. I could feel how deeply our society needed this kind of healing, and that belief became the anchor that kept me aligned with my purpose.

These challenges taught me resilience, trust, and devotion to the work. Looking back, the obstacles were not signs to stop. They were invitations to strengthen my commitment to the path that continues to guide me today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today my work is a blend of many healing modalities. Over the years, through both my personal journey and my work with clients, I have learned that health and healing take many different forms. There is no single approach that fits every person, which is why my practice has become intentionally multidimensional.

My roots are in yoga, Ayurveda, and astrology. After exploring many different traditions, I found these three to be the most holistic and timeless. They have all withstood the test of thousands of years and are grounded in the universal truths of nature. Because we are nature, these systems offer a comprehensive framework for understanding ourselves on every level: mind, body, and spirit. They support ritual and rhythm in daily life and help us align with the cycles of the day, the moon, and the seasons.

Alongside these foundations, I also practice massage therapy, Reiki and energy healing, the NADA auricular acupuncture protocol, and sound healing. Each modality offers a unique doorway into balance and regulation, and I choose the tools that best support the individual in front of me.

I currently run a private home office practice in Bloomfield Hills and teach regularly at Citizen Yoga in Bloomfield. I also host workshops and events throughout Michigan and across the country, and I lead yoga and wellness retreats around the world.

What I am most proud of is the way I am able to empower individuals to understand their bodies, reconnect with their own nature, regulate their nervous systems, and heal trauma in a way that feels accessible and deeply supportive.

One of the things that truly sets me apart in my field is my ability to weave ancient spiritual practices with modern science in a grounded and practical way. I take wisdom traditions that are thousands of years old and translate them into language that is relatable, understandable, and applicable to everyday life. This bridge between the mystical and the scientific helps people feel both inspired and informed, which makes the work more impactful and sustainable.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
There are so many incredible teachers in this field today, and the right mentor can make a profound difference in your growth. When I look for a teacher, I’m drawn to people who are truly integrated in their work. To me, that means they have taken time to embody the practice themselves, to experience it deeply, and to understand it from the inside out before guiding others. Integrity and lived wisdom matter more than titles or popularity.

I also believe that mentorship is fluid. Sometimes you outgrow a mentor, or your needs shift, or you discover someone new whose energy resonates with where you are now. Other times you may go through a season without a teacher and later circle back to someone who once supported you. Just like everything in nature, there are rhythms and cycles. Your path will evolve, and your teachers will evolve with it.

The best guidance I can offer is to trust your intuition. Notice who inspires you, who challenges you in healthy ways, and who helps you feel more connected to yourself. You can also ask friends, family, or colleagues for recommendations, especially if they are on a similar healing or spiritual journey.

Networking in this field often grows organically when you stay open, curious, and engaged with your community. Follow what genuinely lights you up, and the right relationships will find you at the right time.
