Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Friedman.
Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Since I was in college, my mom and I had a dream to open a fitness studio together. It was only a matter of developing the right concept. We tried every class from New York City to Los Angeles, from London to South America. What was missing for us was a class that was both high intensity and low impact. This perfect fusion is hard to develop but is key for sustainability. Always up for a challenge, we knew what they needed to create.
When we mixed our concept and passion with guidance and expertise from celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels, TRX founder Randy Hetrick and fitness expert Obi Obadike, Fuse45 was born. I competed on the reality show Sweat Inc. where I pitched our concept to the world (or viewers of Spike TV!).
With my mom’s professional fitness and advertising background and my business education and experience, we had the right combination of tools to develop the most perfect workout. After owning and operating two studio locations for more than six years, we closed our physical doors during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our dedication to healthy living and fitness fuels our lives and while we shut one door, we opened another. We went online with virtual classes on the first day of the mandated shut down and we haven’t stopped since.
Our mission continues to show others that working out is an opportunity to relieve stress, build self-esteem, find balance, and improve both mental and physical health. Fuse is not just a workout. It’s a community, even online.
Fuse is ever-evolving to bring clients the very best in sustainable fitness.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Two major struggles come to mind:
(1) Working with family. My mom and I started this business together, along with help from our husbands and while we’ve had so much fun over the years, we’ve also had rough patches. It’s not easy when your work is your life and your life is your work, but we try our best and try to give more and take less.
(2) The Covid-19 pandemic. Like so many people and businesses across the world, we were deeply impacted. The decision to close down was difficult. Negotiating our way out of leases was difficult. Saying goodbye to the spaces we poured our blood, sweat and tears into was extremely difficult. Starting a brand-new business, with a brand-new baby (born 3/19/20) was also extremely difficult. But here we are… 🙂
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I co-own FUSE LIVE, an online fitness business offering live and on-demand classes as well as outdoor classes for our local clients. We specialize in high intensity, low impact workouts that require minimal equipment and are incredibly efficient. I work with my mom and I am the most proud of our everlasting commitment to working well together and delivering our community the best in sustainable fitness.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Adaptability. If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s that you have to be flexible and resilient to succeed in this world.
