Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosa Ball.
Hi Rosa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up on a hobby farm in rural mid-Michican, I always had my hands in the dirt. I ran around in my parent’s garden and made forts among the wildflowers in our fields. Around 2019, after having my first child, I had an itch to start build something new and leaned into my roots; I jumped all in to starting seeds in my. basement to grow cut flower gardens. From there, I started selling everyday bouquets featuring the flowers I carefully tended, grew, and curated. I now love designing for our small town community, from everyday flowers, sympathy arrangements, prom wearables, to wedding bouquets. As I work toward sustainable floristry, I always strive to support locally grown flowers and feature seasonal blooms in my designs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any farmer or gardener can tell you that growing food and flowers is a labor of love and heartbreak. I kill a lot of plants, but I grow a lot too! As a grower, I’m constantly learning to work with Mother Nature. Learning to find my design style continues to be an exciting journey of growth and change.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am always inspired by the organic lines of the gardens. Nature isn’t linear and neither are my designs. In a world of stiff shiny plastic, I love that my floral design aesthetic features life, movement, and fragrance. I also loving the little details 0 creating mini gardens you can place on your table, hold in your hands, or even wear! I am most often asked to freelance for other florists to design and build wearable flowers, like boutonnières, flower crowns, and wrist corsages.
What are your plans for the future?
I hope to continue to improve my techniques to promote sustainable floristry and refine my garden-style aesthetic. I am eager to continue serving my local community and designing with locally grown blooms. My first and most important job is being a mother, and at this time I am completely content with focusing the quality of my business and my designs over expansion.
