Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Corey.
Hi Rhonda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my comedy career as the comedic half of a comedian/speaker duo called Take Two Ministries. We did a lot of women’s events, and that’s really where I got my start and fell in love with performing.
Eventually, I ventured out on my own and started performing everywhere I could—fundraisers, conferences, churches, country clubs, comedy clubs, and all kinds of events. Over the years, that led to touring and growing my career as a comedian, which has been a pretty fun ride!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! There have been a lot of ups and downs along the way. One of the biggest things I’ve had to learn is that you can’t always wait for opportunities—you have to create them yourself. There have been plenty of “no’s,” unexpected challenges, and times when I wondered what I was doing, but I’ve just kept figuring it out and moving forward. I’ve learned to keep showing up, keep trying new things, and not take the rejection too personally. It hasn’t always been easy, but I really do love what I get to do, and that makes it all worth it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a stand-up comedian, and I specialize in clean comedy. I love being able to make people laugh without having to rely on being offensive, and I really enjoy creating a show that people can come to together.
I started my own tour that brings clean, quality comedy to churches and communities. It’s a great option for a date night, girls’ night out, or just a fun night out. I also get to work with some really amazing comedians, which I love.
I’m excited about some new things I’m working on, including starting a podcast. I think what sets me apart is that I’m willing to try things, even when I’m scared. Fear doesn’t stop me—I just do it afraid. I’m probably most proud that I’ve built something of my own and get to do something I genuinely love.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that every audience is made up of individuals, and every person matters. Whether I’m performing for 3,000 people, 300 people, or 30 people, they all deserve my very best. I never want to look at a smaller crowd and think they deserve less of me. I’m there to make them laugh, and I want to give every audience the best show I can.
