Rising Stars: Meet Rebecca Watson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Watson.

Hi Rebecca, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started crocheting when I was in high school to make reusable cotton rounds. As I got more into the craft, I made blankets, washcloths, bags, and anything that I felt was challenging or interesting. I had never really considered selling my work until I gave out some crochet pumpkins I had made as gifts. Everyone loved them, and some even asked if they could get another to decorate their home!

At the time we had recently moved to a new city, and I was a new mom and staying at home with my little one during the fall of 2020. After previously working in retail, I decided I would start selling my own product! My husband helped me come up with the name Foxy Mama Creations, which combines my love of foxes and being a mama. I created my own Etsy shop and started selling my pumpkins! I started with sales from friends and family in my first year.

In 2021 I also started selling cotton rounds, dishcloths, potholders, and some holiday items. I started getting a little more attention on social media and got some of my first sales from people I didn’t know!

In the spring of 2022, after many failed attempts to keep my own succulents alive, I decided to start crocheting plants! I now have my very own website and sell much more than pumpkins. I also attended my first vendor event this year! I’m so lucky to have a supportive community, family, and customer base.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I originally started my business soon after moving from my small town in Michigan to Norfolk, VA. My husband was stationed there when he was in the Navy. I didn’t know anyone locally, and being a natural introvert, I found it hard to make friends and network.

In the fall of 2021, I had my second son. Around the same time, I had an uptick in sales after gaining traction on social media. As amazing as that was, I had a hard time keeping up with orders with a new baby, however, I was able to push through with a ton of support from my husband.

In the next fall of 2022, we moved back to Michigan! My business had a hard time catching back up after having to shut down my store during the move.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business as a whole is crocheted home decor. However, I’m mostly known for my crocheted succulents. I am insanely proud of how much my business has grown in the past year and that I’m starting to do vendor events! My goal as a business is to help people find more coziness and kindness through interacting with my business.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband Brandon has been a huge help in keeping my business going. He has made countless post office trip runs and taken care of our boys while I crocheted.

My mom Diane and my best friend, Myckayla, have been super supportive in helping me with product ideas and sharing my business with others.

I also have to thank all of my family and customers who have supported me and my business.
