Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Wroblewski.
Hi Rachel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Back in high school I always loved taking cool pictures on my iPhone camera and always thought photography was a cool and fun thing but I never really thought anything about it. Once I got into college and started messing around with my friend’s camera, I realized that it was something I actually really was interested in and wanted to start doing. My mom wanted to support my hobby and she bought me my first camera which is still the one I use today, a Canon EOS 80D, and I have not looked back since. I take pictures as a fun hobby because it is really something that makes me happy and that I enjoy doing. I also love traveling and being in nature, etc. so it is a win/win. Over time my friends and family would tell me my pictures are really good and I should consider selling my pictures so I took the plunge and have not looked back. I do not regret anything. Life is too short to not wonder what would happen, you just have to go for it and risk it all at times.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road whatsoever. Starting your own photography website/business is super hard and risky. There is a lot of work that goes into it and while I got the hang of it, for the most part, I know I can always do better. There is always something you can do to improve. However, it is very rewarding to see people compliment my pictures, share them, and watch my Instagram followers grow. Hard work pays off and feels so rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I take pictures of everything but humans. I love the scenery, landscapes, animals, flowers, bugs, anything that isn’t a human you name it! I am most proud of following something that makes me happy and proud for even taking the risk of starting my own website to sell my photos. I think what sets me apart from other photographers is that once I visualize the shot I want, I do not stop until I get it. So, if that means I am standing looking at the same scenery or flower for over an hour then that’s what will happen. I have laid in the middle of the street in Downtown Detroit to get a shot of the Tiger statue at Comerica Park. I will do whatever it takes to get the shot I really want. Nothing will stop me.
What makes you happy?
That is a tough question if I am being honest. I have many things that make me happy. Besides photography, I would say traveling, food, family, friends, reading, my dog, Lila, shopping (oh man, I will not even get into that). The little things in life make me happy. Just waking up every day is a blessing.
