Today we’d like to introduce you to Pauly M. Everett. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Flint, MI-born and bred artist Pauly M. Everett currently is focusing on large-scale mixed media paintings and mural work in and out of the streets, combining bright colors and bold subject matter while mixing all mediums at hand. Producing artwork daily allows Everett the use of visual arts as a source of communication and therapy. In his efforts to share an inclusive experience with his community, he engages others, regularly collaborating with fellow artists in the streets of Flint and throughout the globe. He actively promotes and organizes artistic events, focused on growing awareness of the artistic community and empowering creativity within the greater Flint area and beyond.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe the path for artists on the way to being successful will always be a bit of a challenge to say the least; at least for me, that was the case. From financial struggles, finding your audience and style, to having creative space have always been factors to deal with on the path of making a living in the arts.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in large-scale mixed media painting, mural work, and public arts. Curating/Organizing community events and teaching are the most rewarding. Style and approach, I believe, are what sets me apart from a lot of other arts that I love and enjoy. Also, I am currently raising funds to build out and start a new gallery in Flint, and I have a long-term goal of turning Flints West side into an arts district.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
In the creative world, you really want to find a mentor that is open to discuss creativity and collaborate on projects, or at the least just give a few pointers. Personally, I’ve never really had any one person to lay a path out for me, so I had to figure out many things the hard way and on my own. But fortunately, in the art world, there are many creatives out there you can learn from or be inspired by if you can just be open-minded and observant.
