Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Dawson.
Michelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey started when I was a teenager. I always had an idea or vision I wanted to explore, especially writing. I remember in middle school winning a poetry contest about cleaning my room. In my heart, I knew I wanted to be an accomplished writer. However, there was always a battle with doubt, which hindered me from focusing on my writing goals. My fears would overshadow my desire to achieve my dreams. Today, people would never believe I was extremely shy. When I was around close family and friends, I enjoyed being silly. Yes, I did have a level of sarcasm that caused me to push people away, but that was my defense mechanism to protect myself from getting hurt. Eventually, writing became a tool and method for expressing my deepest thoughts, leading me to become a published author.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As long as we are breathing, we will encounter struggles. For some, it is a choice to stay on a road that flattens their spirit like a damaged tire that has lost air. Thankfully, with faith and persistence, many will learn there is always a better path. As mentioned earlier, doubt allowed me to be a victim of not believing in myself. I also suffered from depression and low self-esteem, which caused me to make poor decisions in life. As time progressed, I discovered to travel the road that brings me peace, harmony, and strength.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and a Masters in Business Administration. Over the years, I have always worked in a profession where I helped others. However, my ability to be creative off the clock brings me the most enjoyment. I have introduced many projects over the years, including but not limited to creating my own Blog called A Heart Full of Conversations. Though I don’t blog as much, I use the platform to share information about resources or events in Detroit and the surrounding areas. I also co-hosted a podcast called Issues of Life the Podcast.
Currently, my most beloved project is Heart Full of Wellness LLC.
The mission of Heart Full of Wellness is to Renew, Inspire, and Flourish the Mind, Body and Soul! As the world was easing out of the pandemic, I decided my vision of Heart Full of Wellness could no longer collect dust while sitting in the house watching streaming services or scrolling on social media. Instead, I allow this business to shine because it provides hope for me and others. Heart Full of Wellness permits me to be a writer, creator, motivator, and faith builder while offering healing modalities and encouragement to those striving to live a more purposeful and fulfilled life.
I have published an Inspirational Workbook, Caterpillar Dreams to Butterfly Visions, and an Inspirational Journal with quotes. In addition, I will be releasing two literary projects in 2026. I have also acquired my 200 HR Yoga Certification. Initially, when I first received my certification, all was well. However, after a shoulder injury, I have learned to adapt and occasionally teach Chair Yoga online. Also, I am a certified Zumba Teacher specializing in inspiring people to enjoy moving their bodies how they want to move as long as it is safe and comfortable.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Pursuing my visions as a writer and being a creative spirit with a Heart Full of Wellness brings me happiness. Yes, my family makes me happy. However, we all need additional outlets to evoke emotions of contentment besides relying on other individuals or items that will decrease in value over time. We deserve to find ways to “create our own happiness.” Please make time for it! Also, the growth I see in myself makes me extremely happy. I thank the Holy Spirit for guidance. Sometimes, people will try to remind you of the person you no longer are or strive not to be. Don’t welcome their negative thoughts or energy. Yes, we are human and will be tested, but we should continue to make ongoing efforts to become better humans, contributing to the good of our environment and community. I realized my happiness depends on it, and I hope yours does, too!
