Rising Stars: Meet Manny Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manny Wilson.

Hi Manny, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally started my Podcast (The Run with Manny Wilson Podcast) as a YouTube show in the Spring of 2017. I had just graduated high school and knew that I wanted to go to college for Sports Journalism but would need the experience to make it far in this particular field. Having the experience of playing sports since age 6 along with being able to easily connect with others, I knew this would be perfect!

Prior to going to college, my excitement to analyze sports from an unbiased, understanding, and entertaining perspective propelled me to start immediately! I knew I could analyze matchups, and the game of Basketball, Football, Baseball, (etc.) in written form but I had no experience in front of a camera or doing full segments on a microphone alone.

From then…I decided to use my YouTube segments as a practice to learn, critique, and get better! Eventually, my comfort in front of a camera grew along with my comfort behind a microphone led me to create better content. And as time passed, trying to reach a larger audience, a few close friends and family gave me the idea to try making a podcast version of my segments…

This led me to where I am now. The same routine continues for my current podcast…The mission is to continue to evolve in my field as well as a person, regardless of how much my content has improved. Something I learned at an early age is, that there will always be room for improvement in all aspects of life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and No.

Trying to improve on a daily basis, I find myself having great days of celebrating small milestones as well as frustrating days that make me feel lost, scared, or down.

Yes, because I am extremely grateful for the help and support of friends, family, mentors, and role models.

However, it has not been all smooth sailing…No, because the main struggle I’ve dealt with and currently dealing with is the practice of staying consistent for the long run without getting complacent in my routine. I’ve learned, that emotions are a part of the process when trying to accomplish anything that is important…Meaning it’s okay to feel every emotion on the journey to your goal as long as you continue to move toward your goal.

Because I am passionate about accomplishing particular goals, I tend to occasionally forget my belief that everything happens in divine order.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My specialty is the ability to connect with others, making them feel comfortable just the way they are. We’re all unique in our own weird, fun, emotional, cool & shy ways, although we hide it sometimes. I would like to be most known for being an easy-going, accepting person who is understanding regardless of the typical biases in a situation. I am most proud of the way I’ve finished everything I decided to start without quitting. From Sports as a kid, college, podcasting, and much more to come in the future!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I typically don’t believe in being lucky or unlucky. I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason, good or bad. Sometimes the bad things happen to teach us lessons for the future or to create another opportunity that may be more beneficial. I truly don’t know…but this is the way I choose to view good and bad “luck”. Sometimes good things happen randomly and vice versa, but I always try not to get too thrilled about the good or too low about the bad. Luck of any kind is a part of the mental game in learning to balance out the good and sometimes bad emotions we all come across in my opinion.
