Rising Stars: Meet Macy Munro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Macy Munro.

Hi Macy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
About 7 years ago, I got a DSLR camera for mainly YouTube videos. After doing few years of filming/ editing videos using Final Cut Pro and iMovie, I fell in love with photography. I’ve now been doing photography for about 4 years and absolutely love it. I love the editing, clothing/ costumes, lighting, angels, clients. I enjoy getting creative with it all! I am currently in the transition of turning my work into full-time business. I’d love to travel and continue to do shoots, possibly even videography work.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the road of trying to turn this love of photography into a business has been very difficult. It’s difficult for me to know exactly where to start. I like doing senior, family, wedding types of shoot but I truly love getting creative with my shoots. I like having fun some fun with the editing, lighting, locations, etc. This can sometimes be difficult finding clients.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I love doing all photography. I have done few seniors and family. I’d like to do some weddings and some videography. My favorite type of photos to take is editorial photos! I think it is super fun to get creative with your client’s makeup, hair, outfits, shooting locations. I also really like messing with my camera being the angles, lightings, editing. I think it all adds so much to a photo. I think definitely doing creative shoots sets me apart from a lot of local photographers in my area of Central Michigan. On another note, I think that can also be difficult sometimes.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I have not taken any major risks in photography like out-of-state bookings, traveling far distance, etc. I do think risks can be involved in photography when it comes to a photographer deciding to set out of the box with outfits, hair, locations, makeup, lighting, editing, etc.
