Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurel Day.
Hi Laurel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Do Something Co. in 2020, though back then, it was just an Instagram page I called “Do Something Lady.” We were in the middle of the pandemic, life felt completely uncertain, and I needed a reminder that no matter what was going on, I could do something anything, to make myself feel a little bit better. It sounds simple, but that practice completely changed my mindset and eventually, my career.
Over time, the page grew into a business built around that same belief: that joy has a ripple effect, and when you make space for it in your life, it spills into the lives of everyone around you. What started as me sharing creative ideas online has evolved into hosting workshops, retreats, and team-building events for companies and groups who want to connect in a meaningful way. Now, we design experiences that are equal parts creative, collaborative, and fun, from custom patch bars and floral workshops to charcuterie competitions and full weekend retreats.
It’s been a winding path, with plenty of messy, real-life moments along the way, but that’s part of what makes it feel so full and human. Do Something Co. is still rooted in that original mission from 2020: to help people pause, connect, create, and find those sparks of joy that last long after the event is over.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely been more of a rollercoaster than a smooth road. I didn’t come into this with a background in business or entrepreneurship, so I had to figure out everything as I went, pricing, marketing, operations, you name it. Being your own boss gives you a lot of freedom, but it also means there’s no clear roadmap. You’re constantly making decisions without a guaranteed “right” answer, and the only way to learn is by doing.
Small business life is unpredictable. Some months are packed, some are slow, and sometimes that fluctuation happens week to week or even day to day. You have to keep riding the wave, adjusting as you go, and following where the interest and opportunities align. Just when you think you’ve figured it all out, something shifts, but that’s part of the deal. The challenges never really stop; you just get better at navigating them.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Do Something Co. designs creative, hands-on experiences that bring people together. We specialize in team-building workshops, private events, and retreats that are engaging, memorable, and joy-filled. Our most popular offerings range from custom patch bars and floral design workshops to charcuterie workshops, succulent bars, retreats and our one of kind Creative Crawl- a booze free party bus experience.
What I hope to really be known for is making events feel personal, thoughtful, and full of those little details that make people feel cared for and allow them to show up and now have to worry about a thing. We’re not just there to “fill time” we create space for people to connect, laugh, and try something new without the pressure of perfection.
Our retreats and the Creative Crawl are probably what fill my cup the most and something I’m deeply proud of. The extended time people choose to invest in themselves is so important and sacred, and being able to create and curate that experience for them is such an honor. Getting to hold space for people to discover and enjoy the things that make them feel good is a gift, and the fact that it’s my job still feels a little unbelievable.
At the end of the day, that’s what I’m most proud of: building a business and a life around the principle of creating more connection and joy..
I think what sets us apart is that mix of creativity and intention. We don’t copy and paste events; we design them to fit the group, the vibe, and the moment. And at the heart of it, we’re always chasing that ripple effect of positivity, because when people leave feeling lighter and more connected, they carry that energy back into their work, families, and communities.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success never happens by accident. You need a plan and consistent effort behind it to make your dreams and visions come to life, and it’s hard. Not because you’re doing it wrong, but because it’s just hard. The journey is long, and from my current vantage point, there’s no real end. So, you have to enjoy the whole journey. The path to where you think you want to go, might just be the whole point.
It’s easy to look at successful people or businesses and forget about the years of work, risk, and persistence it took to get there. Sure, there are quick wins along the way, but the real magic is in the long game. Creating something sustainable takes patience, consistency, and the willingness to keep going even when it’s not fun or when it feels scary. Pushing through that uncertainty is how you make progress and actually build something worth having.
