Today we’d like to introduce you to Kid Juice.
Hi Kid , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started making music 6 years ago at the height of the pandemic. My love for music has been there since I was a little kid, growing up with older school parents; rappers like Pac, Biggie, and Nas were always constants in my household. Listening to those phenomenal MCs really grew my love for the genre and art. When I started, I was making music similar to artists I liked, like Future and Travis Scott, and at the time I went by the name Shady Souls. As I continued down this journey, I wanted to find my own identity, and rap became like therapy for me. I started making music about my personal struggles and switched my name to Kid Juice, a nickname my Dad gave me when I was younger a name that never really stuck throughout my childhood, but a name I wanted to take and repurpose in honor of him.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No road to achieving greatness of any kind is ever “smooth.” Trust me, there were plenty of times I sat and asked myself whether it was worth it. Am I wasting my time? Should I quit? And everytime I comeback I always say one more song one more album this music stuff is like an addiction for me I can’t stop I can’t stay away Im always writing Im always recording Im always posting on social media Im always trying to level up and take myself to the next level not because I want to but because I have to I need to I can’t fail not this time. Any obstacle I know I can get past; every wall I know I can climb. Every glass ceiling I know I will break through; I can’t take no for an answer. People have always hated on me, always doubted me. I don’t let it faze me; I continue to be a hundred percent me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Yes I am a rapper/songwriter from Flint, Michigan I focus heavily on personal tracks detailing my mental health, my emotions, my life I make songs focusing on my dreams and aspirations, loss and grief, conflicts on faith and religion, and stories about personal relationships if thats detailing messy breakups and love or stories on growing as a person in a world that can be so cold. I’m most proud of my last album, DON’T WORRY, I’LL WAIT FOR YOU. This album was made at the lowest point in my life; my father had passed away. At this point I was so unsure if I even wanted to keep rapping and making music it was so hard to create music at this point that I decided to make a whole album about that for me felt like a therapy session a project that starts aggresive and angry and mad and ends being mellow, sad but hopeful for the future a project that for me takes you through all stages of grief and at the end promises brighter days. That is what sets me apart. I don’t make music for everyone to like and understand; I make music for myself, and many will relate, and many won’t, but I don’t compromise myself for streams. I’m authentic, and there is, and there will always be one Kid Juice.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My drive, you can’t have success without it. It doesn’t matter how naturally talented you are. It doesn’t matter who you know if you don’t want it bad enough. Trust me when I say this: there is someone out there with nothing to lose who does. You need drive, you need motivation, you need dedication. Nothing is going to fall out of the sky for you. If you want something, be prepared to prove how much you want it.
