Rising Stars: Meet Kelsie Corbray of Flint MI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsie Corbray.

Hi Kelsie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Emerald House was built on the belief that beauty and confidence come from feeling seen, comfortable, and fully yourself.

My professional background is in hospitality and event coordination, where I developed a strong foundation in creating intentional experiences and celebrating meaningful moments in people’s lives. That experience shaped how I approach everything I create today, with a focus on detail, atmosphere, and how people feel in a space.

My love for photography actually started in high school, photographing members of my church community and family sessions. Even during seasons when photography wasn’t my primary focus, I was still developing my artistic eye, learning to notice detail, emotion, and the importance of capturing candid, honest moments. That perspective carries into my portrait and boudoir work today. For me, photography is about capturing the truth behind the lens, in front of it, and within the person being photographed.

Over time, those passions came together and led me to build Emerald House as a brand centered around intentional beauty, creativity, and experience. Today, my work blends photography, beauty-inspired services, and event-focused creativity to help people feel elevated, comfortable, and authentically themselves. I’ve built my business while balancing family life, growing through real-life challenges, and trying to stay connected to my community.

I want people to see themselves in a way that feels honest, powerful, and fully

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Imposter syndrome is massive!

However, part of the message here at E.H. is belief and confidence in ‘Self’. So I would be a hypocrite to not embody that message. It is a daily struggle to simply believe in myself, my vision, and my artistry.

I am happy to continue that fight with me, Kelsie, each day. I constantly prove my own authenticity …TO MYSELF…which is the most important area to establish worth, within.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating experience-driven photography and creative services that focus on how people feel, not just how something looks. My strongest focus is in portrait and boudoir photography, where I’m known for helping clients feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely seen in front of the camera, even if they’ve never done a session before.

I’m most proud of the environment I create for my clients. Many people walk in feeling nervous or unsure, and leave feeling empowered and more confident in themselves. That transformation is the part of my work that matters most to me.

What sets me apart is my background in hospitality and event coordination. I naturally approach sessions and creative work from an experience design perspective. I pay attention to details like atmosphere, comfort, energy, and flow, not just posing or lighting. I focus heavily on candid moments and emotional authenticity, even within styled or guided sessions, which allows clients to see themselves in a way that feels real and honest.

At the core of everything I do is the belief that confidence isn’t created in front of the camera, it’s revealed there.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mother is who I attribute my ‘eye’ to. I grew up watching her create beautiful experiences for members of our church, whether it be a bride, a new mother, or matriarch of the church aging another year, she perfectly designed spaces and cakes and events that left me in awe of her.

And now, my biggest supporter, after my mother, is my husband, Mario. He supports me full fledged and I am so grateful.
