Today we’d like to introduce you to Karl (Ka$h Money Karl) Barth.
Hi Karl (Ka$h Money Karl), so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Ka$h Money Karl Origin Story:
Who knew in 2020 that the world would practically stop turning? I was in process of preparing for one of the most exciting experiences of my life, competing and filming for the second season of ABC’s Holey Moley in LA. Holey Moley was a Mini Golf competition show that combined with over the top obstacles like Wipeout. I pretty much had my persona prepared as “Mister Mini Golf” the founder of my website, MiniGolfReviews.com and had just had gotten a blessing from Ric Flair (Woooo!) on the Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea: Part Deux to have a Ric Flair-esque robe.
Cut to the show, it was an amazing experience! I take a minute to look in the crowd, and see a poster that says “Ka$h Money Karl”. That day, I adopted the new nickname and kept it in my back pocket. The day after the last day of filming, the country shut down due to the pandemic.
Fast forward to June 18th, my episode airs and has an extremely high audience…why? We were the only sport currently on TV!
(Check out Holey Moley on Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ – My episode is Season 2 Episode 5: Where the Herd At?)
Ever since my episode aired and I was voted as the season favorite, people had been reaching out to connect with me. It gave me the idea that I should create some sort of performance and get out to see people when allowed. One person that reached out to me was Matt Miller. He is a stand-up comic and was curious about auditioning for a future season of Holey Moley.
We made a deal, I’d help him audition for a future season and he’d help me get started in stand-up comedy. I made my comedy debut on November 11th, 2020 at Skyline Comedy Club in Appleton, Wisconsin for their open mic as my new persona, Ka$h Money Karl.
And…
It went well! I found a new passion to pursue and work at.
Jump to today, I am still performing today for all roles from host to headliner. I have performed in two festivals, around 200 shows, countless open mics, working with several comedian leaders in the industry, won a comedy competition, filmed in a documentary, became the first comedian regular at the Extra Event Center in L’Anse, Michigan, and producing the Move the Mic Stand Comedy Podcast with my comedy partner, Dean Berg.
One of my most unique aspects of my comedy career is I have one of the best business cards in the business, Ka$h Money Karl bills! These bad boys are rapidly spreading all over the country! I get messages from people all the time finding them and taking pictures. I’m like a modern Flat Stanley.
Comedy has been a lot of fun and I still work on my Mini Golf Archive for Mini Golf Reviews. I travel to courses all over the country and review them. Mini Golf by day and comedy by night. It’s a really fun gig.
Come to a show, have a good time, and don’t forget to Follow the Money!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Most of my struggles have been dealing with people. Comedy has some of the best and coolest people out there but also has some of the very worst.
I have participated in two comedy tours and both ended due to two different comics that lied, manipulated, stole money, and had to stroke their egos with demands. One even tried to end my comedy career because he was getting jealous of the opportunities I was getting and felt he deserved them instead of me.
It has ruined growing friendships, deterred venues from doing shows, and hurt my reputation from rumors spread.
These kind of situations are apparently pretty common with a lot of comedians. I have learned to keep the good people close, like my comedy partner, Dean Berg and not being so open and trusting of other people until they prove they can be brought into the inner circle.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional Mini Golfer/Stand-up Comedian/Technical Writer
I am pretty grateful to have had the opportunity to follow my passions and make a career of them.
In Mini Golf, I am the founder of Mini Golf Reviews which is a hole-a-day archive of Mini Golf. I am grateful that it has been read and actively followed since its creation in 2017. I have had about 10 million views across all platforms combined in the last 8 years! It’s inspiring and an honor to build a legacy that way. I’ve also competed in and won several tournaments in my tenure. I’ve even consulted on several courses and partnered with many people and companies. Of course it also lead to Holey Moley! I’ve also used it to raise money for a lot of charities and that is something I might be most proud of, using my passion to help others and make it fun to do so.
In comedy, I have established myself as a character comic and prop comic. I love to have fun with it and be creative. I am constantly writing new material and do acts that are non-traditional. I love creating new ideas and marketing. I am often told I am the most memorable on a show and have the best business cards in the industry.
In technical writing, I use my more logical side of my brain. I’ve worked for some pretty advanced companies and continuously upgrade my skills. One of the coolest projects I’ve worked on is the implementation of Zelle (The money movement product).
These three aspects of my work give me a great and unique perspective in the world and allows me to apply the skills I’ve gained across the board to improve my life and the lives of others.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
First and foremost, my family, my wife Abby and my dog, Waffles.
They are what I do it all for and they support me completely.
Then it’s creating in all forms like new content, jokes, ideas and on and on.
Helping people whether directly or indirectly also brings me joy and makes me happy.
