Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalynn Tabron.
Hi Kalynn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was 14 years old, my mom gave me my very first camera, which was a Nikon Coolpix L120. I was born and raised in West Bloomfield, Michigan and the second, I got that camera I started taking photos, I quickly fell in love with photography. It gave me reasons to explore, it connected me closer to myself and to the world, and allowed me to share my experiences in a creative way. I am now 24 years old with a Bachelor’s degree in Photojournalism and decided to turn a passion into a business called Tabron Studios.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting any business will not be a smooth ride. I’ve had a lot of hiccups along the way, mostly to do with my confidence in myself and me as a photographer. I always felt like I had to prove something with my work, within my community, and between my fellow photographers. I was focused on all the wrong things and now that I’ve changed a mindset and how the courage to change things up, it has been a much better experience being a business owner. Overall, giving up should never be an option, keep trying until there are no other options left.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Every time I get asked this question, I always get lost in thought. I have tried many different niches of photography, but the most I feel connected to at this point is editorial photoshoots. You’re allowed a lot more room to be creative, to bring something crazy to life and to get people saying “this is absolutely incredibly!” I’m most proud of my editorial shoots and I hope to down the line being doing them for more brands and magazines.
What matters most to you? Why?
A loaded question for sure, but as cheesy as it might sound, my family. I’ve tried to give up photography a dozen of times, and each time it’s my family pushing me to keep doing what I love. They help me during photoshoots, cull photos for clients, and even model for me! They’ve helped me in more ways than I can count and I can’t thank them enough for it.
