Hi Justin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Our journey began in Northern Michigan, specifically in Cadillac, where my father and uncle founded Joe’s Tree Service. As a child, I would help by sweeping the driveways and picking up sticks off the lawn, eager to contribute. We later moved a bit further north to the Torch Lake area, where my father established Torch Lake Tree Pro. For the past 20 years, he built his business from the ground up, starting with just a truck, a chainsaw, and a few ropes, into the reputable company he finished with. Now, we continue his legacy under the name Gull Lake Tree Pro.
Honoring my father’s achievements as a small business owner, we are committed to carrying forward what he started. We have transplanted to Kalamazoo, planting new roots for our family and business. Our dedicated team is inspired by the natural beauty of Northern Michigan and the strong work ethic of the military. We are passionate about exceeding expectations and providing exceptional service to the Gull Lake and Kalamazoo area.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? Not entirely. Like many small businesses in their first year, Gull Lake Tree Pro has faced several challenges along the way. We’ve encountered equipment issues that required quick fixes, scheduling conflicts that tested our flexibility, and logistical hurdles that pushed us to improve our processes.
Learning from both my own mistakes and those of others has been a pivotal part of this journey. Each hiccup has come with valuable lessons that have ultimately made us stronger and more efficient. Financing has also posed its challenges, as it often does for startups. However, each struggle has been an opportunity for growth, teaching us resilience and fostering innovation within our team. While the road may not have been smooth, the experiences have shaped us into a more capable and determined business.
