Rising Stars: Meet Joshua Hakim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Hakim.

Joshua Hakim

Hi Joshua, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started making music when I was in high school for fun. Over the course of me doing this I began to meet people who seemed to share similar interests as me and we all worked together. I continued to make beats to get my name out there and also released songs to help my mental health and build my brand as an artist as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I faced a lot of setbacks to get to this point and I had to keep pushing through, because I know I’m going to accomplish my goals, no matter how long it takes. I’ve been scammed out of money and opportunities more times than I can count. I’ve had people turn on me for trying to better myself and upgrade my life. i’ve dealt with people spreading rumors about me as well, but I refuse to let any of that stop me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am most known for being a singer, rapper, and producer. I also direct and edit my music videos. I don’t think there’s a specific accomplishment of mine that im most proud of. I’d say i’m really just proud of myself for keeping stuff going. I think what sets me apart from others one is my ability to do a lot by myself but also my ability to stay focused on my goals no matter what’s happening around me

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Just start. You don’t need fancy equipment, you don’t need every plugin in the world, you don’t need the most expensive mic or any of that. You just need to create and not focus on the outcome. Don’t compare yourself to others either, it’s cool to have inspirations but if it’s at the point where you feel like paying attention to others is hindering you, just focus on you. Stay true to your vision no matter what anyone else says and learn the difference between constructive criticism and plain hating. Always be learning new info as well, the game is always changing and staying updated on what happening even if you aren’t actively participating can be helpful.
