Rising Stars: Meet Jordan Brooks of East Lansing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Brooks

Hi Jordan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m JORDAN JOESHAWN BROOKS, though I prefer JORDAN JOESHAWN because it has a better ring to it. I’m a celebrated multi-disciplinary artist, mainly focusing on brand identity while incorporating photography and videography as complementary elements.

I obtained my Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design with a minor in Art Photography from Michigan State University on May 8, 2022. My work has been featured on MSU’s Instagram and went on to win domestic and international awards.

Hailing from my hometown of Benton Harbor, Michigan, my guiding principle is: STAY CREATIVE. No matter where/what you’re doing in life, you’ll have fun creating as long as creativity remains key. Everything else will come in due time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey had its challenges, as it still does today. Upon graduating from MSU in May 2022, the job search was daunting. From applying to over 100+ positions to being ghosted by ~95% of them, throwing the towel in seemed like the next move. However, my determination and perseverance through the brutal storm allowed me to land my first role, which still motivates me today.

Anything worth having comes with putting in the work to obtain it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an acclaimed multi-media artist concentrating on brand identity while seamlessly blending photography + videography. In short, I cannot live without my computer and camera, as they are a main part of my toolkit. Art has always been a part of who I am, ever since I was young. Expressing myself in whatever medium I see fit brings me true enjoyment.

Photography.
Videography.
Woodworking.
The list goes on.

My work has been featured on MSU’s Instagram, throughout schools in Michigan, and received domestic and international awards. Here’s the kicker: I’m JUST getting started.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
When you are limited, your creations are the most authentic and original. COVID-19 taught me the art of slowing down. Take a deep breath. Exhale. Now, tackle the situation.
