Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeron Whitehorn.
Hi Jeron, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started photography and videography roughly ten years ago. It started as a hobby. I’m a father of two and I started filming them in their sports activities. I grew from filming them to taking photos at sporting events, camps, and tours. I guess you can say I got my start from sports. People saw the content I was producing and I would get asked to do commercials and highlights for those events. That’s when I decided to start my very own sports photography and videography company. It was called D1freak. That brand spread and from there I started to spread my wings into weddings, corporate commercials, and more. I would do a lot of research into my craft, watching YouTube videos to improve and grow. The one thing that I feel helped me grow was years and years of practice. A lot of people think film and photography are different for each genre which it is but you can learn the basics by practicing on whatever subject you have to work with.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think smooth would be the right phrase. I would call it a long road. Growth in photography or videography in my opinion comes in stages. Every time you think you’re good at it you realize you have more room for growth. I also think some of the struggles are self-inflicted. Starting I felt like I needed to have the best equipment to do my job effectively. Equipment has its place but what help me move in the right direction was investing in other things like classes, lighting, and marketing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I’m a photographer, videography, father, author, and business owner. I specialize in wedding photography and videography. I would have to say I am most known for my ability to provide a high-quality product in a timely fashion. I pride myself on making sure all my clients are happy with what they get but they also get the product FAST. I am most proud of the book that I recently wrote and self-published. It’s called Michigan Made. It’s a little different, and I have stepped into a new genre. In 2010 I decided I would start creating my first book. Twelve years later, with the last 2 1/2 years suddenly giving me a lot of free time, pandemics, viruses, war, and empty nest syndrome, I was able to put together something worth sharing. Social media has provided several digital avenues to showcase what I call art. I have received positive and negative feedback which has inspired my growth as a photographer. So, I put it all together and I’m excited for the launch on May 6th, 2022.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is the attempt and follow-through of mastering a craft that you enjoy.
