Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Creech.
Hi Jay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a huge fan of music and the creative process. I was the guy kids in class would ask to beat on a tape so they can freestyle or just rap for fun. I’ve always been around older folk who creative music. One day I was introduced to the DAW Fl studio back in 2008 and ever since it’s been my best way to express and create. I’m not proud but during my 10th-grade year of high school, I would skip school just to go learn and mess with sounds just to escape from reality. When I create nothing else matters.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a bumpy wild ride. I often sit back and listen to old beats or works of art and sometimes I tear up. I can legit hear what I was going through during that time of my life. I feel like now I’m at a point where whatever I want to make, I can do, but years ago you can hear the struggle, the pain, the stress of those times. I’ve been a part of numerous groups, collectives, or whatever you want to call it and I’ve seen I’ve work best by myself on my terms. When you work with others expectations are placed and when they aren’t met things can be rocky. I now have some people around me that we work and whatever happens, happen. I see the best way is the let things be organic as possible and lately, that’s been what’s best.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been producing for going on 14 years and it’s been what I’ve been best known for. I just recently decided to start rapping just to help elevate my craft further. I ideally would love to develop talent and help them find themselves and gain the confidence to create no matter what anyone may say or think. As far as my sound, sonically I like creating out of sounds or samples people normally wouldn’t go far and provide a vibe or sound through it. My creative process is very unorthodox but the end result always surprises people. I’m asked various questions like “dude how out of this world were you” “what made you sample or chop this” and I never really have legit answer. lol I feel like once I’m in creative mode, I let the music guide. I feel as if sometimes I’m working based of the mind or thoughts of and alternate world version of myself. I often make stuff, forget, come back later, and will be amazed myself, but with a lot it I’m very hard on myself so it’s a double whammy. I’m most proud at the fact I’ve stuck with creating and gave myself time to grow to the point I am now. I have a lot of people who look up to me and it’s amazing seeing all the hard work I’ve put in pay off. I’m able to guide people and help when I can, knowing when I first started that’s all I wanted for myself. I’m self-taught, thanks to “YouTube University” over the years. I feel what sets me apart of others is not going by a set plan when it comes to create. I never start a song the same way, I literally will take a mathematics approach one time, then the next I’ll just try something I’ll never do just to see if it pops. Sometimes I’m lucky, sometimes not so. lol It’s just fun messing with sounds and bending, bleeding, chopping, flipping to create something out of nothing. Also, I’ll like to add the main thing I’m known for is bass. A creech beat is nothing if it doesn’t rattle your speakers.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’ve very easy to work with. I used to strive over selling beats or making money from doing music. I sat back and realized the long haul will be more beneficial than the short. A quick buck here once mean anything if I focus on what can happen if I sit and build a network and or sound, Patience came into play. Once the pandemic happened my group of friends changed and I’ve surrounded myself around people such as Dubby Davito, Big Chris, Beckem The 4th, Fulwylie, PhonZoe, and a few others. But these people over the past couple years have pushed me to limits beyond I thought was capable. I have built numerous bonds with people; some have stuck others have faded away and it’s no heart feelings. I realized people can say all day that they want to create, but If I say I have the time and space, those who I named made the time and effort to keep things going and I’m forever grateful for that.
