Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Hurt
Hi Jasmine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I honestly have always been an artist, creative person for as long as I can remember! Art has always been my passion.
I’ve also always loved beauty and everything about being a girl! So I merged the two together at a young age. I recall doing my friends hair and makeup back in grade school for practice. I also was the girl that did her makeup every single day.
It didn’t really dawn on me until years after high school that I could turn makeup into a career.
A few years after high school I decided to attend cosmetology school. Even after graduating from cosmetology school , I didn’t just deep dive into my makeup career. I don’t think I believed in myself enough. I would work jobs that I absolutely hated instead of honing in on the talent I had .
Until one day. I was at work on my lunch break and I heard God speak to me. I thought I was crazy, but NO it was clear as day it was Him speaking to me.
He told me it was ok to walk away from the job and put my faith and efforts into my makeup career. I did just that! I walked away from that job and never looked back.
At the time I stared out with literally no clientele, I didn’t even have a makeup kit. All I knew was I had big dreams and the talent God gave me. I had to do makeup for free, makeup for dirt cheap. I had to work my way up from the bottom.
Before I knew it I had a steady clientele and I was full blown doing what I love.
For the past 8 years I’ve had the joy of doing something I love for a living. I would be lying if I said it was always easy. Working for yourself requires a lot of faith and a lot of determination. I can say it is very rewarding. Not even in a monetary sense, it’s bigger than that. While makeup is my passion, in these 8 years I’ve found my purpose . My purpose is making women feel beautiful, it’s enhancing their natural beauty, it’s putting a smile on their face and a boost of confidence!
I am forever grateful .
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This is absolutely not a smooth road. Being an entrepreneur is not easy at all. You have to have faith. You cannot give up. It’s something you have to be fully committed to. You don’t know from one week to the next how many clients may book you. I’ve experienced weeks where I may have only had two clients. That’s scary! Again you have to really want it and continue to show up even when you begin not to believe in yourself and believe in your business.
It’s full of trial and error. But there is no better feeling than living in your purpose and working for yourself!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would honestly say art is being true to self. For me I’ve found that my nitch and what I enjoy doing most is soft /natural makeup.
I like to enhance the beauty that’s already there. Most women when they sit in my chair , tell me that they want to still look like themselves. Just enhanced . So my soft/natural looks are my most booked .
I also offer makeup services for the deceased. So I have families that will bring me and have me do makeup for their loved one that has passed . I would have to say that’s my favorite service to provide surprisingly. It’s very peaceful and it’s truly a joy to provide that sense of peace to a family . When they say “wow she still looks like herself, she just looks like she’s sleeping”, is a feeling I can’t even describe. It’s a blessing to be a blessing !
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
It makes me happy to make others happy. To make women get out of my chair feeling confident and beautiful!
