Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaevonn Harris
Hi Jaevonn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Man, my story is one of hustle, creativity, and staying true to myself. I grew up in Detroit, surrounded by vibrant culture and struggle. From an early age, I was into art, music, and storytelling. Whether it was sketching cityscapes or freestyling with friends, I knew I had a voice that needed to be heard. But life wasn’t all smooth—my family’s financial struggles shaped me, and I carried that pressure to not only survive but thrive.
Fast forward to college, I was balancing law school and pursuing art and music on the side. It was a grind, but it taught me discipline and resilience. After becoming a lawyer, I realized my true passion lay in creating. I dove headfirst into visual art, dropping collections that blend pop art with street culture, and making music that tells stories people can feel. My brand, WELÇOME©️, is a reflection of all of that—it’s a mix of who I am and where I come from.
Today, I’m not just an artist or a lawyer. I’m someone who’s building a legacy, whether it’s through my artwork, music, or the connections I make with people. Every step of the journey, I’ve stayed rooted in my faith and used my experiences to push me forward.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Man, smooth road? Nah, it’s been more like a Detroit street after winter—full of cracks and potholes. But that’s life, right? The journey’s been anything but easy, but it’s those struggles that sharpened me.
Financial struggles were a big one early on. My family had this cycle of “just making it,” and I carried that weight. I’ve had moments where I barely had enough to keep things moving, juggling rent, my art, my music, and work. Even now, I fight against that feeling of never having enough, but I use it as fuel.
Balancing my passions and being a lawyer wasn’t easy either. I’ve been in jobs where I felt boxed in, knowing I wasn’t living out my purpose fully. Then there’s the mental battle of staying creative and driven when it feels like the people closest to you don’t support or even understand your vision.
But the biggest struggle? Self-doubt. When you’re building something from the ground up, you question everything. “Am I good enough? Is this going to work?” Those thoughts come creeping in. But every time I’ve pushed through, I’ve proven to myself that I’m built for this. The road might not be smooth, but it’s mine—and every bump has made me stronger.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I wear a lot of hats, but everything I do comes back to creating and telling stories. I’m a visual artist, musician, and entrepreneur. My art combines bold, hand-drawn designs with streetwear culture, and my music dives deep into my personal experiences, blending introspection with smooth, nighttime vibes. I’m also a lawyer, but honestly, that’s just one piece of the puzzle—it’s the creative side that fuels me.
What I specialize in is authenticity. Whether it’s a hoodie from my brand WELÇOME©️, a painting, or a verse, it’s all rooted in who I am and where I’ve been. People know me for merging pop art, hip-hop culture, and personal storytelling into something fresh. My designs feature everyone from basketball players to cultural icons, and my music? It’s like driving through Detroit at night—gritty, soulful, and real.
What I’m most proud of is building something from scratch. My art is in galleries, my music’s on streaming platforms, and my clothing is being rocked by people who connect with the story behind it. Every piece I put out is a part of my legacy.
What sets me apart is the intersection of it all. I’m not just an artist or a musician or a lawyer—I’m all of that at once, and I bring those layers into everything I create. I don’t follow trends; I create from my heart. The work speaks for itself because it’s not just for me—it’s for the people who see themselves in it.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-taking has been a constant in my journey. Every major move I’ve made required stepping into uncertainty, trusting that the risk would be worth the reward. One of the biggest risks I took was leaving a secure contracting job with DTE to go to law school. That was a leap of faith—I was giving up a steady income, stepping into years of intense study, and betting on a future I couldn’t fully see. But I knew I was made for more, and I had to chase it.
Even before that, leaving the safety net of Detroit to go to college in Arkansas was a huge risk. I was stepping away from everything familiar—my family, my city, my comfort zone—to grow into the person I needed to become. It wasn’t easy being away, but it taught me independence, resilience, and how to navigate life on my own terms.
Since then, the risks haven’t stopped. Whether it’s investing in my art and music while balancing my legal career or putting myself out there with my brand, WELÇOME©️, every step has required faith and courage. I’ve risked time, money, and even comfort to build something meaningful.
For me, risk-taking isn’t about being reckless; it’s about believing in the vision and doing the work to back it up. Every risk I’ve taken—from leaving Detroit for school to creating art collections and stepping into the courtroom—has been a building block in my journey. The way I see it, the bigger the risk, the bigger the potential for growth.
