Rising Stars: Meet Garrett Hampton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrett Hampton.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I feel like what started my journey towards becoming a rap was being involved in music so much growing up. I started off in my middle school’s band at 11 years old and was introduced to Eminem at the same time. Both of those things got me a decent musical understanding and somebody to kind of look up to like “Hey he’s from Michigan too, why can’t I do that?” you know? Fast forward about 2-3 years and I wanted to pursue rap but held back on it because it wasn’t supported in the current relationship I was in.

Another year or so later, I was out of that relationship and feel back into wanting to rap and I did. I began writing a couple months before my high school graduation and would go on to release my first single on May 23rd, 2019 which was not just on the night of my graduation but also the same night of what would have been the 1-year anniversary for me and my most recent ex at the time.

Since then, I’ve done numerous collaborations with other artists, shot a couple music videos, gotten signed to a label (SVNS Media Group), got recognized by Joyner Lucas in 2020 who would go on to buy some clothing from my merch line, and released 2 albums and an EP on all streaming platforms all with 1000’s of streams on Spotify!

I am currently working on my next project and am unsure of the release date but expect it before 2022.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been rather smooth for the most part but I feel my struggles haven’t been very different from anybody else’s. Early on especially but even now I lack quite a bit of local support but that is fulfilled by the amount I do receive from elsewhere.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My main artistic focus at this point is definitely rap, no question. I do make some art such as graphic design every now and then but definitely something I could brush up on. I’m proud of my motivation and persistence and feel my constant drive and being able to disregard negativity is what sets me apart from other people

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I feel I was definitely more outgoing as a kid, since then I’ve definitely shut down and become a quieter more “stick to myself” kinda person. While that has change I definitely still fiend for knowledge wherever I can find it and still have a huge love video games like I did when I was a kid.
