Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Simpson.
Hi Erica, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My journey to becoming a doula began with the birth of my own two babies. I experienced firsthand the power of a doula’s emotional and physical support not just for myself but also for my husband. I had several friends asking me to support them in their births so I leaned into that and explored what it would look like for me to receive formal training and pursue this path further. I became a certified birth and postpartum doula and have had the privilege of supporting many families since then.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Birth is not a one size fits all experience. There are plenty of opportunities for growth, surrender, and learning along the way. I have been fortunate to gain professional and personal experience through the various births I have witnessed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I truly believe every family deserves the support of a doula. It should not be an exclusive luxury. Every birthing person is worthy of emotional support, holistic education, and soulful empowerment during their pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum journey.
As the founder of Ardent Doula Collective, I am a trauma-informed, culturally competent certified doula and passionate about empowering families so they feel confident as they journey on their unique paths during pregnancy, labor/delivery, and in the postpartum space.
I serve on a local taskforce with Borgess Hospital representing a bridge between the community and hospital to reduce disparities and improve the quality of care for all.
I am an intuitive healer with extensive knowledge about using essential oils and other natural remedies to support individuals emotionally and physically during their pregnancy, labor/delivery, and postpartum period.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Our intuition can be trusted and that surrender is one of the most important aspects of birth to embrace.
