Rising Stars: Meet Ebony Angel of Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Angel.

Hi Ebony , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has been anything but traditional and honestly, I wouldn’t change it at all!

For years, I worked on the assembly line at Stellantis while quietly dreaming of a more creative life. I always knew I was meant for more and loved to create, lead, and tell stories, but like many people, I was waiting for the “right time.” Eventually, I realized there would never be a perfect moment, so I decided to finally bet on myself.

That leap of faith led me into the film and television industry, where I started as a Wardrobe Stylist, Production Assistant and worked my way up to becoming a Production Coordinator on commercials, music videos, and television productions. Every set taught me something new not just about production, but about leadership, problem-solving, and bringing people together to create something meaningful.

Along the way, I discovered a passion for project management and creative direction. I love taking an idea from concept to completion while making sure every moving piece comes together seamlessly.
Around the same time, I became the producer of Rewriting the Script, a podcast centered around healing, growth, and authentic conversations. Producing the show has been one of the most rewarding experiences because it has created a space where people feel seen, heard, and encouraged.

I also had the opportunity to attend the Apple Developer Academy in Detroit, where I expanded my skills in project management, UX design, and technology. That experience challenged me in new ways and reminded me that creativity and innovation truly go hand in hand!

Today, I work as a Production Coordinator, Project Manager, and Creative Director, and I’m continuing to build a career that blends storytelling, organization, and community. Looking back, every chapter even the uncertain ones really prepared me for where I am today.

If there’s one thing I hope people take away from my story, it’s that you don’t have to have everything figured out before taking the first step. Some of the greatest opportunities in my life came from simply having the courage to bet on myself. My faith has been my anchor throughout the journey, and I’m grateful for every lesson that’s brought me here!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has literally shaped me into the person and professional I am today! One of the biggest leaps of faith I took was walking away from the security of a stable career to pursue a creative path that had no guarantees. There were moments when I questioned if I had made the right decision, especially while trying to build my career in film and television, attend the Apple Developer Academy, and balance the responsibilities of being a mother.

There were seasons of uncertainty, financial sacrifices, and learning how to navigate industries where I was often starting from the bottom. I’ve also learned that entrepreneurship and freelancing require a very different level of resilience. You’re constantly proving yourself, building relationships, adapting to change, and trusting that the work you’re putting in today will create opportunities tomorrow.

What has carried me through every challenge is my faith in God, my willingness to keep learning, and my refusal to let setbacks define me. I’ve learned that growth often happens in uncomfortable seasons, and some of my greatest opportunities came after moments when I wanted to give up.

Looking back, I wouldn’t erase any of it. Every obstacle strengthened my confidence, taught me perseverance, and reminded me that success isn’t about having a perfect journey it’s about continuing to move forward, even when the path isn’t clear.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in bringing creative ideas to life through production, project management, and creative direction. Whether I’m coordinating a film production, producing a podcast, or helping shape a creative vision from concept to execution, I thrive in environments where organization and creativity come together.

Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on productions for networks and companies including HGTV, HBO Max, TUBI, Zeus Network, Paramount, and major commercial and music video productions. Starting as a Wardrobe Stylist, Production Assistant and growing into Production Coordinator roles has given me firsthand experience in what it takes to successfully execute projects in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.

One of the projects I’m most proud of is producing Rewriting the Script, a podcast centered around healing, personal growth, and authentic conversations. What started as an idea has grown into a platform that encourages people to embrace their stories and know they’re not alone. Being able to help create those conversations has been incredibly fulfilling.

Another milestone I’m proud of is graduating from the Apple Developer Academy in Detroit, where I strengthened my skills in project management, leadership, and creative problem-solving. That experience reinforced that creativity extends beyond entertainment it also lives in technology, innovation, and the way we solve problems.

I believe what sets me apart is my ability to bridge creativity with structure. I’m just as passionate about developing the vision as I am about building the systems that bring it to life. I’m known for staying calm under pressure, adapting quickly, leading with professionalism, and making sure every project runs as smoothly as possible.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that Detroit is a city full of resilience, creativity, and opportunity. There’s something special about watching people here bet on themselves, build businesses, and create spaces that bring the community together. As someone working in the creative industry, I’ve seen firsthand how much talent exists in this city. From filmmakers and musicians to entrepreneurs and artists, Detroit has a culture that’s rooted in innovation, authenticity, and collaboration. It’s inspiring to be part of a community that’s constantly reinventing itself while still honoring its history.

Hmmm… If I had to choose one thing I’d like to see improve, it would be more accessible opportunities and resources for emerging creatives. We have incredible talent here, but many artists and entrepreneurs don’t always know where to find mentorship, funding, or industry connections. I believe the more we invest in our local creative community, the more Detroit will continue to thrive not just as a city with talent, but as a place where that talent can build lasting careers.
