Today we’d like to introduce you to Dymond Phillips.
Hi Dymond , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story with Dymond’s Diary really started during my junior year of college. At the time, I was surrounded by people who seemed to know exactly what they wanted to do with their lives. My friends and the people around me had careers they were passionate about, skills they were really good at, and things they knew they could turn into successful careers and make money from. I didn’t feel that way. I didn’t necessarily feel special, and I didn’t think I had some unique skill that differentiated me from everyone else. I remember wondering, “What do I have that could actually become something?”
At the same time, I felt this strong urge to create. I didn’t see many people who looked like me or were talking about life from a perspective that felt relatable to me, and I realized that maybe my perspective itself could be valuable. I was studying Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Journalism at Clark Atlanta University, and my dream at the time was to become a fashion journalist.
So, in 2017, I started Dymond’s Diary as a fashion blog. But I always wanted it to be deeper than just fashion. I wanted to create a space where I could show people that the skills, experiences, and perspectives they may overlook in themselves can actually become the very things that set them apart.
In the beginning, I wrote about fashion, celebrities, everyday people, beauty, and my experiences as a college student. But as I grew, Dymond’s Diary grew with me. What started as a fashion blog slowly became a lifestyle platform centered around the idea of becoming.
Today, I still share fashion and beauty, but I also use my real life as a way to talk about the lessons I’m learning along the way. I share what God has been teaching me about faith, discipline, growth, confidence, and evolving into the woman I’m becoming.
Dymond’s Diary is essentially my personal diary that I’ve opened up to the world. I share the highs, the lessons, the transitions, and sometimes the messy parts because I want other women to feel encouraged and seen. I don’t want to pretend that I have everything figured out. I want us to grow together.
Looking back, I think the most beautiful part of my story is that I started something because I didn’t think I had anything that made me different. I was trying to figure out what my “thing” was, and I eventually realized that my perspective, my voice, and my willingness to share my journey were skills too. Dymond’s Diary became a way for me to turn those things into something meaningful, and hopefully remind other people that what makes them different doesn’t always look like a traditional skill or career at first.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. Vulnerability has always been one of the biggest challenges for me.
When I first started Dymond’s Diary, I wanted to share the polished version of myself. I wanted people to see the side of me that had everything together, looked good, and had it all figured out. I cared a lot about other people’s opinions and how they would view me, so I was hesitant to share the parts of my life that felt messy, uncomfortable, or unfinished.
But that actually made it harder for me to grow with my audience. By not fully being myself, I struggled with sustaining the blog and being consistent because you can’t fake it forever. Eventually, I realized that I was holding back the very thing I started the blog for in the first place: my real perspective and my real life.
Once I started becoming more vulnerable and showing more of the real me, everything began to shift. I was able to connect with more women, and my audience began to connect with me on a much deeper level. I started receiving messages from subscribers telling me how something I shared, whether it was a testimony, a lesson, or something I was personally going through, encouraged or motivated them.
That has probably been one of the biggest lessons for me: sometimes the thing you’re most afraid to share is the thing that can help someone else the most.
I’ve learned that I don’t have to have everything figured out to be valuable to my audience. Dymond’s Diary was always meant to be a place where people could feel seen, and I had to first give myself permission to be seen too.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Today, I’m a lifestyle content creator, writer, and the creator of Dymond’s Diary. I specialize in storytelling through content that blends lifestyle, fashion, beauty, faith, travel, and personal growth.
Dymond’s Diary is a digital diary of becoming. I use my own life and the things I’m learning in real time to create content that encourages women to grow in their faith, become more confident, practice discipline, and embrace the different seasons of life. I still love fashion and beauty, but the heart of my work has become much bigger than what to wear or what products to use. I want people to leave my content feeling like they learned something, felt seen, or were encouraged to keep going.
I’m most proud of the community I’ve been able to build through simply being myself. Some of the most rewarding moments aren’t necessarily the numbers or opportunities, but receiving a message from a woman telling me that something I shared helped her through a difficult season, encouraged her relationship with God, or made her feel less alone. Those moments remind me why I started.
What sets me apart is that I’m not trying to position myself as someone who has everything figured out. I’m still becoming, too. I think there’s power in allowing people to see the process instead of only the finished product. My content comes from real experiences, real lessons, and real conversations I’m having with myself and with God.
I also think my background gives me a unique perspective. I studied Fashion Merchandising and Journalism, so I’ve always had an interest in both the creative and storytelling sides of media. Dymond’s Diary allows me to bring those two worlds together while creating something that feels deeply personal to me.
Ultimately, I want Dymond’s Diary to be a reminder that you don’t have to have your entire life figured out to start creating, growing, or becoming. Sometimes the very things you think make you ordinary are the things that make your story worth sharing.
