Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Coon.
Hi Dustin, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hydrium Studio is a platform for illustration, writing & design projects.
When I sprouted into this world, I was designed to be an illustrator. My journey has been spent investing time and clarity around nature, consciousness, and the cosmos.
In many ways, I see life set up like a comic. That’s not a bad thing. It gives the push needed to connect experience to environment, explore sustainable ideas and institutions, spark awareness towards non-conformity, and pioneer creativity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With twins about to turn 1 year old, haven’t had much time to sit down and purely draw lately or to get involved in any art markets for that matter. Looking to catch back up to a regular routine as they keep growing. Will need to pass on the torch!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Hydrium Studio: The name blends the words ‘hydrogen’ & ‘helium,’ representing the essential elements for life. Passion for illustrating gives Hydrium Studio the edge in writing & design, for the awesome in mind. Most of the content centers around nature, consciousness, science fiction, and the cosmos.
Beyond a wide range of freehand illustrations, comics, posters, portraits, calendars, and murals, I’ve been working long-term on a sci-fi graphic novel series called ‘Warped Over,’ a spacetime saga beyond normal dimensions. An epic tale between father & son after their colony of humans warped through a blackhole into a highly advanced alien galaxy. This is my biggest project to date, as I’m in the process of creating a storyboard and script to be expanded on.
Additionally, although in very novice stages, I’m conjuring up another story about superheroes – but not your grandpa’s superheroes! When you have teleportation, mind control, time dilation, and mad scientists, it’s a less than conventional take on supers in a future setting between multiple dimensions of space and time.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m a West Michigan native and have been involved in art collaborations from Grand Rapids to Muskegon and beyond. This includes markets, murals, commissions, and design work.
