Rising Stars: Meet Drip Trip

Today we’d like to introduce you to Drip Trip.  

Hi Drip, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My name is Drip Trip. I am kinda new to music after spending majority of my life behind the scenes as a web developer and graphic designer. I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder during my time in the military and after my discharge, I took comfort in being away from the light of people to deal with my anxiety and the feeling of overwhelming pressure of having to deal with life. After harsh, failed life lessons and Covid, of course, I decided to pursue more creative things that bring me peace and joy instead of trying so hard to create things that were not June’s to make. I started writing music on my in February of 2021. I released my first song July 29, 2021 and got really good feedback from people, so I took it further and put out an EP. That ep led to some bookings in Florida and eventually back home here. Since May of this year, I have been running artist showcases. A lot of talent artists don’t have professional visuals or networks so I try to make sure that we get to be seen in the same light as ppl spending racks on marketing. In the year as an artist, I have been able to accomplish over 80k streams (60k USA) and 11k followers, and I have headlined at least 10 shows.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, there are mad struggles I have faced as a black male and as a musician. Most are of my own fault. For 1, we fear talking about how we feel. So, I’ve done a lot of holding in and silencing myself more than others have.

As a musician, you run into spaces where if you not part of the clique, you not getting no love no matter what. It’s annoying, but nepotism is the reality of our society so I’m unbothered frfr.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an artist at its core. I have always been an artist since child. I was making comics, and as an adult, I paint and make digital artwork. As I got comfortable with my voice, my art kinda inspired my music. I felt comfortable being free and open with my crafts, so I do get boxed into a specific thing. I see stories inside the art just like I do music, so I feel that the difference between me and others is that I create my story, art & ideas with my own perspective that no one can replicate cuz they are not me.

What do you think about luck?
Luck is fickle. I don’t think luck plays much a role. If I work hard and do good, I get good outcomes. I put myself in places where better things can happen. If I slack off and scheme around, I’ll prolly fall down at some point.
