Today we’d like to introduce you to Dee Mistify.
Hi Dee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and having resided in Michigan for nearly the past decade… I am your favorite Canamerican (my self-coined term to describe my dual US-Canadian Citizenship). My passion for creativity knows no bounds, and my desire to drive home my main platform of Mental Health Awareness is effervescent. I am a model, creator, artist, actress, and Mental Health Advocate. I am learning graphic design, how to master social media platforms, and dabbling into what it’s like to be on the other side of the lens as a photographer. Furthermore, I am obsessed with our four-legged friends! After many years in the corporate world, lacking direction, inspiration, and reciprocity… Pet sitting is what originally allowed me the opportunity to become a freelancer. Furthermore, the endless compliments on my photo-taking skills for client’s pets led me naturally to looking more into my artistic/creative side, originally considering photography. That said, photography led to modeling, and modeling snowballed into what is now this big creative force of energy we now call Dee Mistify!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To borrow a line from the well-known poem The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Though arguably, that borrowed line describes it perfectly, Dee does not know smooth roads! As a Mental Health Advocate and firm believer in “practicing what I post” as the new age term for saying- I don’t just preach it, I believe it! My life hasn’t exactly been what one could call typical or “normal.” I spent a lot of my life trying to fit myself into a this box that I felt was presentable for society… Turns out, being outside that box and embracing it? Changed my life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a freelance creative! Willing to take on any and all creative and artistic endeavors! I have heavily marketed my modeling recently, as by popular and personal opinion, it’s my strong suit. I’ve also been an actress since childhood, so the emotive storytelling through photos was a natural progression. Furthermore, artistically and creatively inclined my entire life my transition from paper crafter to graphic design work online has been an equally natural progression. I have tied the need to market myself in the online/social media world to my never-ending drive of being a Mental Health Advocate. It’s truly an honor to find something I love, try to make a difference, and hopefully make a career of it in the process! In closing, the other work I arguably do, if you haven’t noticed already, is being a writer! Not sure Dee has really mastered where she will place this skill quite yet, but she is told it’s there. SO, it was worth an honorable mention. That, and likely the fact that she has a very silly sarcastic sense of humor and an undying need to refer to herself in third person!
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am open to opportunities and travel! I would love the opportunity to create more, collaborate more, and do more to make a difference. I am truly an open book and arguably a creative ball of energy who spent too long not exercising her artistic abilities!
Furthermore, a moment of gratitude for all of the amazing folks who have helped me get where I am so far with my creative career! Thank you honestly doesn’t feel like enough, but I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am today without the support of other creatives and those who social media/online platforms have fostered the opportunity for me to cross paths with.
