Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana D. Berry.
Dana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up on the Eastside of Detroit and went to private schools all of my life. My parents divorced when I was young and not long after, my father died in a car accident. I was devastated and felt a bit lost. I got married young and had 5 children before getting a divorce after nearly 17 years of marriage. Not really feeling fulfilled and living in my purpose, I began doing a lot of soul-searching. I decided I wanted to help other women navigate through separation and divorce. Being an ordained minister, I felt I needed to gain more knowledge in just how to help women from a coaching perspective and pursued my coaching certification. I am now married to an amazing man who compliments and supports my dreams and aspirations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been an easy or smooth road. It has been very challenging, turning pain into purpose. It has been difficult raising 5 children and rediscovering me, my likes/dislikes, who I really am, and how to love myself back to a healthy place in order to help others. It was a journey to finally decide love myself, forgive myself, and ultimately allow someone else to love me again.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an office manager at an elementary school, where I also coordinate the Sister-to-Sister Mentor Program where we help nurture and develop 20-plus 3rd and 4th graders.
I am an ordained minister and the CEO and founder of Dana Berry Ministries, where we host conferences, provide mentorship to those who feel they have a call to ministerial services. We also collaborate with other ministries in providing resources to shelters and other outreach efforts. We stream weekly times of encouragement and prayer on social media. We have also released multiple prayer projects that can be downloaded from multiple digital outlets.
I am a certified coach whose main niche is helping separated and/or divorced moms navigate and journey through the process by providing 1:1 coaching, and I host a group retreat yearly, providing resources and empowerment.
