Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Ellison.
Hi Charles, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Took 10 years away from doing music to focus on my photography business AV Photography Studio and my videography business UBC (unbreakable camp) productions. Servicing the metro Detroit area for over 10 years. 2 years ago, I started my clothing line (Be Great) clothing line. Was also going to school while being a single father because my son’s mother passed away. Just got back in music and received a distribution deal and my EP wrong was released August 4, 2022, on all streaming platforms including Apple Music, tidal, pandora, and Spotify. I’ve been also shooting and editing my own videos that can be seen on YouTube at QuietStorm734. I started out doing music under my nickname Fatt Daddy (Fatts For.All.Those.That.Struggle) aka Da Struggle. Music was very different during this season as it was referred to as pain medicine (music). Now taking the world by storm my artist name is Quiet Storm. The name represents a calm yet catastrophic event that changes any environment it touches. In times of crisis, I project a low-key, reassuring, calm confidence.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Running my businesses while going to school and being a single father was very difficult. Before that, in 2003 while my family was attending a family reunion my dad and brother passed away from a racism car accident in Kentucky. When a car cut them off on the road. My mother, brother, his wife, and her cousin were all flown to different hospitals to receive care. My pastor Arvis Alexander took my down south to pick up my remaining surviving family. I’ve never seen a double funeral but to see my dad and brother in those caskets changed my life forever. Then my son Elijah Malique Ellison died 4 days after birth due to premature birth. This was followed closely before by my 1st cousin, both grandmothers, and very close friends. I was losing everything I loved. I couldn’t get help with beats or studio time so I taught myself how to play every instrument Guitar, bass, drums, and went to school to learn how to record better. I was literally nicknamed Da Struggle.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Quiet Storm is a lyrical mastermind that takes a story and paints it vividly that all can understand. Relatable music on a different level of creativity. I have my own sound. I’m not trying to be or sound like anyone else. I’ve matured in my music and have tapped into my ancestral voice.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was very inquisitive and outgoing. I knew everybody and had lots of friends. Growing up in church because my dad was a pastor helped me a lot and I knew the word very well. Loved animals and would always get caught by my mom with a random animal as a pet. Would give my last to friends and always wanted to make a difference. Everyone would always tell me I was different and Bigg than my environment. I knew I was going to be somebody.
