Today we’d like to introduce you to Caidy Brasure
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From a young age, I found peace and creativity in hairstyling and braiding. What started as experimenting with unique designs on my own hair quickly grew into creating updos for my sisters and friends attending school dances, crafting ponytail styles for cheerleaders during competitions, and designing intricate braids for football and basketball players for their games.
Although I had a deep love for all things hair-related, I initially chose to pursue a career in sports writing. However, during a class one day, when the professor asked me about my true passion, it suddenly clicked – hair was my calling. The very next day, I abandoned my writing aspirations and enrolled in cosmetology school, never looking back.
Excited to embark on this new journey, I eagerly shared my goal of becoming a Styling and Braiding Specialist. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm was met with discouragement, as others doubted my ability to succeed in such a niche field, insisting that no one went to cosmetology school for that purpose. Despite the negative feedback, I remained determined to turn my passion into my purpose. Sixteen years later, I stand proud as an Award-Winning Hair Styling and Hair Extension specialist, with a focus in Editorial, Bridal and Braiding, while also helping other professionals advance their own artistry as an Industry Educator.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to where I am now hasn’t been easy. When I switched from sports writing to hairstyling, many doubted my decision, especially since I focused on braiding and styling—an area not many pursue as a specialty. I tried cutting and coloring hair, as many suggested, but I became miserable, lost my passion, was unsure of my direction, and ultimately almost left the industry all together. Realizing a change was needed, I attended a class by Martin Parsons and that’s when everything shifted. It was there I realized not only did I want to continue as a styling specialist, I wanted to also help others find fulfillment in this path, just as I had.
Shortly after, I set my sights on the North American Hairstyling Awards, one of the most prestigious honors and awards to receive within the industry. Sharing this ambitious goal with my biggest mentor at the time, their response was that people like me don’t win NAHA. Instead of allowing that negativity hold me back, I pushed forward, where I went on to become the NAHA Styling and Finishing Awardee, while also becoming a finalist in Texture Styling.
I share this because not everyone will understand your journey, and that’s okay. Becoming your own biggest cheerleader is the most empowering thing you can do. Celebrate the small wins as much as the big ones. Be proud of every step forward, no matter how small, just as much as the big leaps. And remember, while we can’t control everything we experience, the comments others make, or the challenges we face, we can control how we react. I choose to focus on the good, while creating opportunities that allow me to fulfill my dreams and make my younger self proud of who I am today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Hair Styling and Hair Extension specialist with a focus on Editorial, Bridal, and Braiding, while also serving as an Industry Educator to help fellow professionals advance their craft.
My passion lies in creating chic, runway-worthy hair with an editorial approach. I also love designing intricate braided styles and avant-garde hair art. Working with hair extensions and feed-in hair is a creative process for me, one I can spend hours perfecting and layering in unique ways to bring something fresh and different to life.
Beyond offering services, I’m deeply passionate about sharing my skills with other hairstylists, helping them gain confidence through the techniques they learn.
I’m most well-known for my award-winning detailed braided hair designs, some of which have taken up to 8 hours to complete, incorporating a variety of braids like infinity, dna, fishtail, five-strand, four-strand, basket weave, rope, and more.
What I’m most proud of is that I didn’t give up when many told me I wouldn’t succeed as a styling specialist.
I know what it’s like to want something so badly, only to face doubt from others along the way, to the point where you start to question yourself. But you can’t give in to those doubts. Over time, I’ve developed a “get it done” mentality. When I set a goal, I pursue it relentlessly, no matter what obstacles, setbacks, or negativity arise. I stay focused on my vision, trusting that it will lead me to fulfill my passion and dreams. Often, others won’t understand or support our path because it’s not their own, and that’s okay. As long as it makes sense to you, that’s what truly matters.
