Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Gandy.
Hi Brittany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Canadian from Toronto who moved to the United States in 2007 to take on a new adventure and create a story of my own. I was recruited to play soccer at Adrian College where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science. I was then fortunate to continue my education further at Eastern Michigan University where I earned a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology. It was there that I was able to create a career in the healthcare industry.
I have worked in numerous physical therapy clinics as a physical therapy technician, to a wellness trainer, to the training and education department, to the clinic manager. I have been located in outpatient and inpatient settings along with fitness centers. With all of my work experience and education, it has provided me with a ‘rehabilitation through exercise’ background which creates a unique foundation to my approach to fitness training. We all face setbacks in life! They can be as small as skipping a workout or as big as a life-changing injury. Being able to return to the best version of ourselves is not always easy on our own. That is why in June of 2019, I created my company BMG Wellness. BMG Wellness is all about taking a Whole-Body Approach to everyone’s journey. The Whole-Body Approach takes a look at seven areas: physical activity, nutrition, self-care, self-responsibility, stress management, sleep, and social. All of these seven categories intertwine with each other and create your BMG Wellness custom program.
I want to help women find their best self, no matter where they are at in their health and wellness journey. I want to help women find purpose in their everyday movement. I will always work my hardest to empower and educate women on their own Whole-Body Approach to health and wellness so that I am able to set their future self up for success.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The process of turning my passion into a business has been the most challenging obstacle for myself. I have always loved my clients that I have worked with and 100% of my attention has always been placed on providing them with the best treatment and programs. As a business owner, I have the additional responsibility now of taking care of things such as sales, marketing, administrative tasks – the areas where my attention and time has never had to be placed.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When I started BMG Wellness, my main focus was to create a program for women that would allow them to feel comfortable, confident, and motivated. I wanted a program where we could celebrate every success and milestone – big or small together. I wanted to help women implement healthier habits into their daily routine so that they were able to make a lasting lifestyle change that they were able to sustain on their own. Everyone’s needs are different, everyone’s goals are different, and everyone’s body is different – so there should never be one program that is the same for everyone. That is why I created my main package – The Executive Training Program. It takes a Whole-Body Approach with each client focusing on all seven areas – physical activity, nutrition, self-care, social, self-responsibility, stress management, and sleep. The nutrition portion is created with specific macro, fiber, and water ranges depending on the client’s goals, and the physical activity portion is created based on the client’s Day 1 – Baseline Assessment that we complete together. The Baseline Assessment includes body composition measurements, initial weigh-in, and before photos. The fitness assessment portion includes a cardiovascular, muscular capacity, and a flexibility assessment. In addition, I complete a seated spinal rotation and supine straight leg assessment, and a posture anatomical screen. Looking at all of these areas, allows me to build a custom program for that one specific client. Every 4 -weeks, these assessments are completed again to show every client the progress they are making – this is my absolute favorite day and why I love what I do.
