Rising Stars: Meet Brad Reed

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Reed.

Hi Brad, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My dad, Todd Reed, has been photographing the Michigan outdoors for over 50 years. He did art fairs and had a gallery in our home. In 2000, he moved his gallery out of his home and into downtown Ludington. In 2004, I quit my other careers and started working for my dad running his photography business full time. In 2005, we dissolved his business and started our joint business at Todd and Brad Reed Photography. We have self-published 9 photography books on Michigan and our area.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some years we have had huge growth and some years have been slow. Overall, we have grown into one of Michigan’s largest photography-only galleries and outdoor photography businesses.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My dad and I, and now our business manager Rachel Gaudette, specialize in outdoor, nature, wildlife, and lakeshore photography. We are most known for our sunsets over Lake Michigan, our in-the-water photography, and our storm photography. My dad and I have each won major international Nikon photography awards and North American Nature Photographers Association (NANPA) awards. Our books have also won dozens of international awards, including winning the gold Benjamin Franklin Award for Best Coffee Table Book in North America.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Like a lot of people around the world, we learned to not take as many things for granted, especially being able to spend time with loved ones. As a small business owner, we learned to adapt quickly and to be willing to change.
