Rising Stars: Meet Bill Tsatsos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Tsatsos.

Bill, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started off bartending in my early 20’s in Los Angeles for banquet catering type events all over Hollywood, I landed at Wolfgang Puck Catering & Events in 2002, where I spent 13 years as one of their top seniority bartenders, working with the Oscars every year as well as other award shows, Hollywood movie premiers and private events at celebrity homes such as Tom Cruise, Cher, George Clooney, and many others.

I returned to Detroit in 2015 and created Motor City Mixology which is a mobile craft cocktail company. I show up to your home or office or wherever the party is at and make specialty craft cocktails with my homemade lavender, mint, thyme, and rosemary simple syrups.

I got tired of making Jack and cokes, so I got creative and developed what I call art in a glass. My cocktails are visually stunning and taste delicious.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There was a bit of a struggle making the move from LA to Detroit and gaining new clientele and wondering if there was a market for this kind of cocktails in the Detroit area.

It took several years to gain the clientele through numerous five-star reviews and word of mouth. This is what helped grow my business and develop the brand known today as Motor City Mixology.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets me and my business apart from others is the fact my cocktails are made with fresh simple syrups I cook myself in my kitchen. My cocktails have extraordinary flavors. I’m proud of my artwork which is my cocktails.

I constantly create new menu options to fit the theme of any party you are having. I’ve designed cocktails for 80s themed parties, 90s themed, ethnic genres, for baby showers and weddings. You name the event, I’ll design the cocktail menu.

My “Lavender in Love” is the most popular cocktail that I make with gin, lavender mint syrup, tart cherry, plum bitters, lime juice, and fresh mint garnish on top.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just be passionate about your craft. If you don’t have the passion or desire then you won’t achieve your goals. Be passionate in every aspect, not just creating cocktails but the marketing aspect as well.

Be excited about it. Promote your craft, market it, enjoy it. Then reap the benefits from all your hard work.
